It's a downhill assist feature that they have.

I don’t often get to drive them, especially on as steep roads like today so never really noticed it, or how well it works.
I like it. Saves wear on brakes.
Tundra seems to be more sensitive, as can feel it downshift on hills with less slope.

Companies 2018 gmc is supposed to help with hill descent but you have to toggle a switch and must be below 20 mph and it uses brakes rather than gear down.
It will sometimes do it at highway speeds if tow haul is on and have heavy trailer behind.

Must be a 5 speed thing, i’ve gotta turn off OD by hitting the button on the steeper hills i go down.

    May be.
I was surprised at the Tundra downshifting, out of OD if I let off the gas and tapped the brakes going down one steep hill locally, and thought something was wrong until driving the 4 runner today.

Last time we went to Wilhelmina, I was in work truck on business trip, and had to ride brakes most of way down from mountain.
I sure liked driving the yota in the mountains, and not having to constantly use the brakes.

4 runner is wife's daily driver's, and I haven't got to drive it much in 5 years or so we had it, so hadn't noticed it did that.

My titan has rev-matching. If i downshift after taking my foot off the throttle, it wont rev match for maximum engine braking. If i’m still touching the throttle when i downshift, it will rev match, and seems to coast down the hill much faster, like maybe the cams minimize engine braking.

That’s exactly why I’m looking for some input. They also have an A-pillar gauge pod but I would like to keep my grab handle.

Thats why I have my shitbox. It sits all summer but as soon as they call for snow I get it cleaned up and ready for the year. Tundra hasn't seen salt since I've owned it.

    PROPS to @BubbaW !
Like I said: 'stone-cold conviction'; all i needed to hear...
Said RKE 'Piez-o-shit' buzzer is outta my life! Hella-frickn-luya!
Admittedly, I didnt see its 2 wire harness that routes back to the cab, but it does also route, side by side, w/the brake reservoir harness...but all good now.
I hereby pledge to never abuse, mis-use, over-use or otherwise subvert any of my 'lunch-table-genl-discussion-thread-priviledges'....for at least the next 15 minutes. I'll follow-up w/ a couple token hail-marys...
    Thx again @BubbaW ...
Now, on to my AC rear pivot windows noise reduction....

Some people resort to unusual methods to protect their bumpers from scratches. Looks like a patch of tire. Can’t be sure though.

@JakeJake when you get around to building bumpers i want a thick rubber pad riveted to the center section i can carve a design into. Maybe tire tread on the sides to help a pit hook.

Yeah and it's really dumb. It won't protect against damages other than scratches. If you're worried about scratches then just pay to have PPF applied. At least this with PPF you can still see your paint.

Some are even hitch mounted and causes even more damage after getting rear ended.

Google "Bumper Blocker", very common in the city. I saw them for the first time in NYC many moons ago. People use them so they can freely squeeze into spots and literally touch bumper to bumper if necessary.
