2 years old. Green af. Caymus releases their cab way too early.

But those steaks came out to perfection.

I got shamed on the Live thread by oldguyraftingonariver for expressing my enjoyment of a good bottle of Caymus...

All in good fun, although I think he doesn't believe it's worth the price (can't remember what he said but something along the lines of much better wines out there for the price and you're paying for a region)...

But, that's the thing about wine, bourbon, beer, etc.. we all have different palates and experiences!!

Soooooo, it's okay for him to be wrong

Edit: I really need to start scrolling down first :anonymous:

I do agree about the “other” wines for the same price but this was a gifted bottle and I was happy to drink it. It was also very much enjoyed. I’m very excited to try this one next. image.jpg

Caymus is different bottle to bottle. It’s a mass produced “fine” wine so it’s to be expected I guess. It’s not my go to but if you gift us a bottle I’ll drink it.

This is pretty much spot on from what I said and will always say. For their price point and them releasing them so early I don't think they are worth it. And also yes to your point about how everyone has a different pallet. So if you came in and wanted to spend top dollar on an over priced young wine I wouldn't hesitate to lie straight to your face about what a great selection you've made. Here in the real world, on the forum. No lies and no bull.

Yes Caymus is marketed as a fine wine, but as we know with a lot of marketing it's all bull. Try drinking a bottle of Caymus 8-10 years after the vintage is released. That's when you'll taste how good Caymus really is. They generally release their wines at 2/3 years, which for my palette is too tight and the complexity of that wine hasn't even begun to mature yet IMHO. But with all that said, hell yeah to free wines, and a bigger hell yeah to Pahlmeyer. Sit on that one for another 3-5 years and you'll be amazed how much it changes in depth and character.

We have a few of them. They are tucked away in a nice climate controlled environment to be enjoyed sometime in the future.

Grilling is a summer thing for sure. I grill a few times a week at best in the winter. Where as summer deliver most nights dinner from the char. Need to mix up my standard rotation though. Maybe I'll get the smoker rolling for some pork butts I have in my freezer.

Did some nice low and slow BBQ over the weekend. The smoke ring and juiciness on the ribs made them a hit for sure. Chicken was also good, and not pictured are some NY strip steaks I reverse-seared since I had the smoker going at a low temp.

Secretly… I actually really like fish, especially grilled fish. But don’t tell anybody that. :anonymous:

Helped my oldest gremlin make dinner tonight. Smoke grilled chicken thighs. I walked him through prepping, seasoning, and tossing them on the smoker at 275 for an hour or so until they hit 175 internal.

He turned them in to tacos americanos with small corn tortillas on the frying pan with cheese, then stuffed (some of) them with some vegetable matter. He did an awesome job! In fact, the rest of the crew wolfed them so fast I couldn’t even get a pic of the tacos. Taste was fantastic! And yes, I need to clean my smoker…

I thought I was going to be able to grill my sirloins before the t-storms came, but I had to use my air fryer instead. Not for nothing, it does a pretty dang good job. Perfect med rare, nice and juicy. It's not bad in a pinch.
