cheap winch bumpers??

GREETINGS. anybody have any experience with these cheap Amazon bumpers? most of them have good reviews but I'm skeptical. I'd like some front protection with a winch mount but idk if these are beefy enough to pull me out of a snow drift with a 12k winch on a 6k pound truck.

I recently traded in my '18 tacoma and i tricked it out with bumpers and all that jive. now i need a winch on this truck before winter...

Zero chance I'd trust that to stay intact under extreme use.

 

That's what I was thinking... Guess I'll be saving up a couple grand for a good one.

 

I went Demello - it's the only one I've seen the has a mounting system that wraps under the frame to the tow hook locations in addition to the standard bumper mounting location.

 

If you want quality and good price along with safety, I love my ironman. It's got crumple zones and is Australian department of transportation certified.

 

The RCI Arapaho wraps under and connects at the tow hook locations as well as the standard location. I looked hard at the Demello but I’m local to RCI so I went that route. It’s very well built.

 

definitely leaning towards those two options they look pretty good. I like having that hoop too over the top for extra protection. mainly against deer. I'll keep those in mind once I'm in the market for it. thanks for the input!

 

I have one of these Chinese-made bumpers (from ebay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/356466232850) and can give you my 2 cents based on having it and being a welder myself:

- the hardware included is metric 8.8, not "grade 8" - this is equiv to a grade 5 bolt. this will hold the bumper but NOT any sort of load. replace them if you want to use a winch. use grade 10 if you can get it.

- the metal is pretty thin, but thicker than the stock bumper, and the welds in the area where you mount a winch are not solid (they're stitched), so I would reinforce this area if you plan on using a winch.

- they claim mine is stainless steel. I haven't seen it rust yet, and it's powder coated, so I can't tell.

- mine mounts at the stock bumper location AND wraps down to where the tow hooks are located on the frame. all of that said, I wouldn't trust this to do any serious recovery but it would probably pull the truck out of a mud rut or ice patch.
