OVRLND Camper/Tundra Thread

Spent the last four days out of the OVRLND, but didn't actually get that many pics of the rig all set up. Lemme tell you....camping at 10k feet, with temps in the low 30s overnight in the Sierras is damn enjoyable w a Propex. Lowest setting kept the camper at about 47-50, and a few clicks up ramped the temp to 75* in the AM....why did I wait so long for the propex?!?

We made some friends after a long hike in to catch some fish:





About a mile down the road from camp was a cabin w this pack team grazing freely near us; the owner came down to make sure the animals weren't bothering us, but apparently he packs all the California DFW scientists in to this particular stretch of water every summer so they can study the rarest of trout in the US. Sadly, we didn't catch those trout, but caught bows, cutt-bows, browns and a brook. Not what you want as a native trout enthusiast, but didn't get skunked.

Oh man....one of the best meals EVAR!!!

Sushi rice, w a piece of sauced spam on it, wrapped in nori(seaweed). They are savory and filling and so damn good. I'm also the type that has eaten spam straight from the can, so I like the food a lot. These are bis in HI and the PI. Learned them from my Marshallese sister in law.

Anyone have a go fast camper? I just bought a first gen after years of camping out of a RAV4 and tent. I am so excited to have a truck! The go fast campers seem like a good compromise of being light and functional while still letting my truck do truck stuff like hauling lumber for projects. But man, that price tag. Twice what I paid for my truck.

 

There is a decent thread on the GFCs in the 2.5 Gen forum. I stopped by their shop in Belgrade about 7 years ago now, and they were very welcoming and took the time to show some random dude around. Build quality wise, I know they've had issues w the hinge points, but I havent searched out the specifics on what that is.

I personally dont like the wedge campers of that style, but many do, so I'd say find someone local to you to check one out. I think GFC has their own forum too.

 

I actually love the wedge style, so that part is fine. They also just came out with a new model that I'm hoping fixed their hinge issue. Made an appointment at local partner to get a demo but its a 2 hour drive from me. I'll see if I can find anyone local who has one. I'll check out that Gen 2 Forum, too, Thanks!

GFC guy wandering over here. Love these campers. What do you guys run for solar setups?

 

Renogy 200 watt panel to the Renogy solar controller. 100Ah AGM battery in the bed that is charged from the solar panel and a custom 2nd battery charger. That system charges the starting battery for 5 mins initially, then the 2nd battery, and I can back charge the starting battery from the camper battery by flipping a switch under the hood.

Ohhh love this! I think I want the one with a semi roof top tent on top though. I like that it can be popped up and you have some real headroom in the back. I'm hoping to work on the road at least a few times a year to get out and do some real exploring and the extra space will be really nice without sacrificing too much weight or the use of my truck for "truck stuff" when I'm home.

 

well, might be doing this afterall for budget reasons haha. found a first gen leer with side windows that open for $800 2 hours away. might be ok for now.

Been wanting to add a more permanent and higher capacity water tank to the truck, but also respect the budget side of it. This guy 3D prints Scepter lids w an Osprey style QD, same exact one as the Dometics and others, but I know the Osprey stuff work too.


Haven't figured the final layout and mounting solution out just yet, but am digging the product so far....pic dump to follow:

 

I know there has been discussion about bed welds cracking with campers installed; just saw this bolt on solution and think I may give it a try. I inspected all my weld recently, and none were cracked, so this is purely preventative at this point.

I did it in two parts so not the ideal way to go. Honestly I dont recall but I did get the Lockers from Colton... @memario1214

 

What size propex did you go with?

 

I went w the HS2800...the larger of the two. Cycle time is good, so it isnt on and off too quickly. Propane consumption is low, and it definitely heats the camper up quick.

 

Always tweaking. I recently added OE style Bushwacker flares, different wheels with less offset (+25) and re-geared to 5.29s. It’s like a whole different animal.
