Machinist / Toolmaker; (was) on the bench for 30 years. Primarily building plastic injection molds/tooling. A little compression tooling, a little aluminum/zinc casting.
Did a bit of a mid-life detour with Non-Destructive Testing after multiple rounds of layoffs in '09 when so much manufacturing went overseas.
Only did that for a few years and decided I was too old to be living out of a suitcase and away from home and kids all the time. A young, unmarried man's gig, and I was neither.
Been back full circle for almost 10 years now in the manufacturing segment, for the last 3 at the same company I was laid off from in '09, supporting the semiconductor industry.
Still in the Tooling department, but now I ride a desk doing all the procurement and admin. related crap and leave making chips (steel, aluminum and plastic, not electronic) to the young bucks.

And for as little use it gets I sometimes wish I didnt have one.
Kind of a hole in the ground you throw money into.
But come July and August I'll be happy about having one.

We have a pool and got a gas heater installed this spring. It has been a HUGE problem - ignition failure fault almost daily. Have had the pool company, gas company and plumber all out multiple times and they finger point each other. Spent almost $5k on the heater and install, new gas meter (free from gas company) and plumbing and can't even use the damn thing. If i could get them to uninstall it and give our money back I would.....

    Yeah...our heater recently died.
They replaced it with this little heater about the size of six shoe boxes stacked.
The old one was Huge in comparison!!
They insist it'll work just as well.
Haven't fired it up yet so dont really know if it's going to live up to expectations.
We fired up the heater the first month after moving in....The Gas Bill Rivaled Our Electric Bill!!!!
And we have 3 Large A/C units!!!

Yeah we had talked about getting a heater for a long time......my wife will not get in the pool unless its 82 or above!!!! So we hired the most reputable pool company in our area who installed the heater and it has been nothing but issues since. Nobody can figure it out and it is really starting to annoy us. It has been over 2 months since they've installed it and it will not continuously run for more than a few minutes without throwing the fault code "ignition lockout" which apparently means the ignitor tries three times to fire and if it can't it shuts down. The gas company insists it isn't a gas supply, the plumber has come back to adjust the valves and the pool company that installed the heater is blaming everyone else........I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to gas so I am out on even trying to figure it out. But I would like to get some use out of it instead of having a $5k paper weight.
