Posting here as I am stumped, and hoping to crowd source a solution. I’ve been needing new rotors for a while, got all the parts ordered and waited for convenient time. earlier this week, I noticed a squeaking or grinding noise after braking coming from the rear Driver side tire. Figured it was time. Did a total pad and rotor replacement today. Everything went smooth, except the noise is still there. Did a real good inspection while the rotor was off to see if anything looked off and it didn’t. I’ve done a real thorough inspection to make sure nothing’s bent or scraping while the wheel turns. It seems to be coming from the brake. I’m wondering if the emergency brake shoe is rubbing? Any thoughts?

This. Aside from the obvious mangling around the OD, these are known to rust jack near the caliper mounting lugs until they rub the rotor. I can where it’s been rubbing in your photo.

Yes, I can see what you’re saying now. Do you think the easiest solution would be to carefully grind down the spot on the brake shield near the mounting lugs?

It still is a little strange to me that it seems to start making noise after braking, and after a while, go away until braking again.

No, here. At least that’s sure how it looks to me. And where mine rubbed.

I was able to “massage” the dust shield back away from the rotor with a punch and hammer IIRC.

Thank you. I will give it another look over. I hope this solves it.
