Shocked. Absolutely shocked I tell you.

Have smoked 2 entire cigarettes in my teens.
Weed a couple times. (Several edibles more recently however.)

I do enjoy the occasional cigar outside by itself or with a good bourbon or single malt.

 

Anyone else following the politically motivated incident in my home state?

 

I'd take the 55° but hard pass on the piss water.

 

Not following much of anything right now. I've lightly caught up on the riots in LA over the last few days, but not really diving into it. Just watching some yootoob commentary.

It was when I was walking across a parking lot in the rain yesterday and the bottom of one foot got wet that I realized I couldn't put off buying new shoes any longer.

I bought 2 pairs about 5-7 years ago.

I hate shoe shopping at the best of times but everything is so ugly and expensive now. Everything has doubled or tripled in price.

Why does every shoe have to have a thick ugly white sole?

Of course the only shoe I didn't hate they didn't have in my size.

I ended up buying Converse, which are definitely not my style because they were the least bad option. They were also half the price of the only other shoes I was considering.

Options for hiking boots were similarly limited but luckily the first pair I tried on fit, looked good and cost what I expected them to.

Your first point. I'm a smoker and don't do any of the things that started this discussion.

Second point, in public I'm in. In your backyard, I don't care about that. Same as cigarettes, don't inflict your vices on someone else.

Third point, totally agree.

 

I keep checking that link for updates. The whole situation is just sad. That guy murdered people and their families have to live with that loss, and not only that but his actions are hurting his friends who love him. He didn't just hurt people he hates, but those he claims to love. It's terrible the whole way around.

 

I’m not much for the white soles either. I keep buying ASICS Gel Venture 9s. They have been affordable on the asics website. Haven’t looked lately. They can wear out faster than the high end Vibram soles, but the expensive stuff isn’t worth the cost IMO. I get Softsole gel insoles and re-use the insoles.

Double gel, I figure I can run away faster than the next guy in the crowd.

 

I'd treat cigars like whiskey. In your own home where others don't have to smell it.

While I appreciate you being one of the few responsible smokers, I gotta point out your statement of "Don't inflict your vices on someone else".

Smoking by its very nature does exactly that. That's my problem with it. When some toker two campsites down lights up a joint, it stinks up the whole campground. When the neighbour next door lights a cigarette on his back deck, I can smell it in my yard.

Why should me and my family be exposed to 2nd hand smoke in our own yard, nevermind in public?

As Supreme Dictator for Life, I would concede to permit cigarettes and smoking pot on the stipulation that it is done within the confines of your own home and never outdoors or in public. I really don't care what harmful substances someone decides puts in their body, as long as it doesn't affect me and mine. If you can control your smoke so nobody more than 10 feet from you can smell it, have at 'er I guess.

 

We're going to have to go places with this.

In the camp you just mentioned, how about the camp fire? How about the cooking smoke and odors from a restaurant? Automobile exhaust? Lawn mowers? Tiki torches at a luau?

What about other public behaviors that inflict on others? Obstructing the flow of traffic? Body odor in public? Standing in public doorways or claiming too much space in a public pathways?

 

I lived with a friend not too long after high school, and another friend came and squatted on the couch for a few months. He decided it would be a good idea to plant some seeds in the yard. In Texas, at least at the time, they'd throw you in jail for years for something like that. He planted them in the front yard.

Regular human odors that aren't a health hazard are acceptable, or those like auto exhaust which are unavoidable.

Yeah, I like DWD, driving while distracted. Covers many things.

 

Pretty sure it's similar here in Canada. I didn't care one way or the other when they legalized it, but I did notice a huge increase in how often I smelled it out around town. Used to be I could go weeks without smelling it at all, now it's a daily thing. People stopped being discreete and just started toking up wherever and whenever.
