So, say we go out somewhere without hookups. Obviously we take our own water and stuff. Where do people dump their poop and stuff after?

Pre Covid, but purchased January 2019, MSRP was $20k, they had 5 on the lot and were marked down to $15k. 100% the best family investment for quality time. We use it once a month from quick weekend get aways to week long trips, I absolutely love it. Almost always at state parks, so they have good amount of space, good locations, and great prices. Goes on the driveway so no wasted storage fees. And if you finance pay it off ASAP, those loans are bad for you and great for the banks.

In my area: some larger gas stations have dumps and some State Parks for a fee ($10'ish). I have to store mine because my F'ing HOA, but there is a dump on site there, so I use that after some trips.

After you dump, put about 5'ish gallons of fresh back in the tank

I used to be a firm believer that RVers were lazy and that only "real" camping was hoofin it with everything on your back.

Yes.. You'll want to go to Walmart and get some additives that you put in your Black Water (poop) tank that keeps the smell down... You'll also want to get the RV toilet paper .. DO NOT use regular TP ... You'll have to learn how to conserve water when you are dry camping

Thanks, I didn't realize there was rv tp. Maybe have to get a bidet too if its not a dry campground.

    Lots of stuff!
We are on week 3 of this trip and have gone through 2 fills of fresh water and have dumped the grey and black tanks 2 times. There are municipal places that offer trailer dumping or you can visit a local campground and use theirs. They might charge a few bucks but better to dump sooner rather than carrying all the added weight in the rear of the trailer (where most of these tanks are positioned). It can make a big difference to the tongue weight as you travel and increase the chances of swaying.

I have 4 x 6gal jugs full of water that I carry in the truck which allows me to fill up my fresh water as we go along on our trip.

When showering or doing dishes, we have figured out how to collect as much of the grey water as possible and we can dump this into our black tank to even out the distribution and avoid filling one tank sooner than the other.

I've used Kirkland the whole time we've had the trailer with no issues.

You don't have to buy the RV specific TP, but you wanna' make sure it breaks down in water.

Take a sheet of the TP, put it in a glass of water and let it sit for 5 minutes or so then stir. Charmin will be a big wad still intact and wrapped around the spoon. The Kirkland I use, or any RV safe TP will be semi dissolved and breaking up into very small pieces.

As long as it breaks down you're good.

When you flush be sure to use a little water. If you don't have enough liquid in the tank you get a Poo Pyramid.

I fill the toilet about half before pooooing... this way it will flush... By default the toilet only fills about an inch or so... doesn't fill like your home toilet...

Get a camper…..the memories will last a lifetime! I have bought, repaired and flipped a half dozen pop ups and trailers. Would buy them, fix them, use for a year or two and sell it for a lot more (usually) than I bought it. We now have a 2917 rpod 180 for us and the digs. The kids really have no interest anymore. We have a few trips planned this summer and fall and enjoy it. Best vacation we ever had was us and the kids in a pop up in Acadia national park, white mountains and bar harbor.

Maybe a little later than that…..probably about 16 and 14. Essentially it was when the people we would typically plan trips with kids lost interest. We still go on a Memorial Day camping trip every year where we have 27 families and their kids come (all around the same age). So they still come to that for the socialization and kayaking, etc but they really could do without the camping part

My “kids” are 25 and 21 and have spouses. They’ve never lost interest because we never made them sleep on a fold out sofa together. They’ve always had their own bed in the camper.

I could see that. When my wife and I knew we were going to be living in our camper for a period of time between houses, I purchased an apartment on wheels instead of a camper. It was a 29’ rear living setup. Dedicated bedroom in the front, full size shower, kitchen with island and large fridge, living room with recliners and a sofa with double slides. It was great. When we got back into our next house, it was too much for camping. Sold it and bought a 4200# single slide bunkhouse camper for “camping”. The tool should fit the job.

The old “apartment”. Outback 292URL. 7115# dry, paid $31,950 for it.

The new “camper”. Coachmen Apex Nano 208BHS. 4200# dry. Paid $24,800 for it.

Custom bug spat pattern hood, grill & bumper. Dead Live Oak leaf collection under hood, cowl and lower fenders. Beach sand custom floor covering.
My first camping trip was in a floorless Boy Scout tent. Dad saw a new Sears cabin tent with screens and a floor. "That's not camping. This is camping", he'd say. Said the same thing to the pop-up campers when we got the new Sears tent and again to the Motorhomes when we got the pop-up Apache Ramada. Wasn't too long he bought a new Motorhome.

Some of those Class A motorhomes are ridiculously nice. My neighbor has one that I would put up against any custom home.

I will say this - owning a camper is like having a boat. There is ALWAYS something to fix, tinker with, an idea for better storage, etc. I find it fun but lately I am having to do some stuff nuts to get it ready for our scheduled trips. The latest is replacing the converter that went out this winter…..
