Grab handles

First post! I thought I had a login since this is my third Tundra. Apparently I did not. Anyway, I have a question I have not seen asked anywhere. So, is there a possibility to add a grab handle to the ceiling on the passenger side? My wife is familiar with the Oh Sh*T handle from my previous trucks. This generation seems to have deleted the ceiling handles and left the A pillar only.

 

No way bolt it. Add a para cord crab handles to the head rest. That way she can ride in the back, lol.

 

I was afraid of that. I told her I dont see any mounting spots for one. But thought maybe they were behind it. Passenger princess problems.

 

This works great for the entry/exit challenged. ($4) and you can rescue yourself with it !!

Those would be useful regardless of anything else. I have the small window punch on my keychain.

She is more concerned about riding in the vehicle without somewhere close to hold onto. I do a lot of off roading and camping so the off canter really gets her. As well as the turns. So not so much a ingress/egress issue as it is a "cant reach the A pillar handle" and there's nothing else to hold onto issue.

 

Have her "tug" on the shoulder belt until it locks, then she can hang on to it.

 

Maybe install a 4-point seat belt harness for her.

 

A nice Ricaro seat for her might be just the ticket.

 

There are some nice looking bolt-on handles you could add to the pass. side of the console ( like the new Taco has )

I have my truck torn apart to change the headliner so just wanted to help with a few photos of what’s underneath that may help answer your question.

there are a couple ribs that appear solid enough to mount some brackets to for some OS handles. As long as you wouldn’t be yanking or trying to swing too much, it “should” be able to hold some moderate weight but I’m not an engineer so YMMV and all that

 

IMO (not that anyone asked for it’lol) I would not install anything in that area whatsoever that would compromise that airbag.

 

Im thinking a temporary soft grab handle like 550 cord which can be closed in the door with rubber blocks outside for a secure feel to it. Or attached to a roof rack and then closed in the door. I know some will complain about the seals, paint damage, etc... but I think this may work for temporary off road excursions!

 

I installed these on my headrests. Works great if you really need them or if you have a short reach. Different colors to choose from. I was also thinking about the front and how my wife also misses the ceiling mount. So thinking maybe these handle extensions might do the job and also for shorter reach. But would have to use a different mount for the grips.

The pillar hand grip measure approx 3 3/4" around on the '24 Tundra.

 

So I made a prototype. Those handles you suggested with a wooden dowel on the exterior with pipe insulation for paint protection. Ready for revision suggestions.
