What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I attempted to fix my fuck-up with the ECGS bushing today and realized the drain plug wasn't gonna come out ( I've had it out before about 2 years ago I don't remeber having any problems). Today wasn't gonna start that way workin' on the truck. Aborted mission, started searching the lexus drain plug stuff. Anyone confirm that those part numbers work for a 2006? All I saw was 2004 and before members posting about them.

Here are part #'s for front diff, trans case and rear diff washers btw.

 

It was rusting under that section.
Seems like be a major pain to remove so hoping to try and seal it to keep water from seeping under it unit I can get tonneau cover on it. Hopefully will mitigate moisture issues of any other seeps in the liner.

 

What is this Lexus drain plug you speak of?
Both times I've tried to remove that plug I've had to work it loose with an air hammer

 

I wasn't seeing luck with my Dewalt 1/2" impact plus the angle sucks with anything but a single socket. I didn't wanna round it off and be fucked. Need to figure out what size torx is down in there t55 fits the allen head area but that didn't feel like a good idea. might have to use heat...

Well we're making headway; today I finished up the rear u-joint. This one was a PITA! No matter what I did I could not budge the old one so I took it to a welder friend of mine to see if his press could do it. No joy. He finally got out the torch and burned the old u-joint out then pounded the old cups out. I've done a heluva lot of u-joints in my career but never had one like this. What a pain! I also replaced the rear brake shoes and drums then took it for a road test. All good. Next up,, front coils, struts, and swaybar links.

Managed to finish up the retrofit install last night. I’ll make some sort of build thread going over it all at some point. For now here’s a few photos!

Wet sand and polish those old ones and keep them as a back up! That can easily be cleaned up. 1500 grit.

 

Spicer/Dana is king. Toyota knew this, which is why our driveshafts and u-joints were all Spicer/Dana from the factory.

Moog has become an abysmal, utter shit company in the last 20 years.

 

I haven't worked on the Tundra for a while and I haven't done much mowing.....

Did pull the 18 foot trailer today and did two yards, side by side, in about an hour.

Next few days will be rain so probably won't use it at all.

 

You know it! I’ve got them set aside in my shed, absolutely nothing wrong with them. Wish the new ones had OEM fitment..

 

Don't feel bad. Mine don't either, but I picked up a super cheap pair for starters. I plan on getting a better quality version of of rock auto down the line.

Pro tip: I used clear silicone caulking around both assemblies where the cover meets the housing to prevent any condensation issues. If you start to get condensation then do the same.

 

Today I finished my roof rack. I’ve hurt everything from my finger to my feelings working on this but it’s done.

 

Well I finally did something to my Tundra and not just with it. Sorry no pictures but just now I removed the old tailgate handle and put in a new OEM version. The old one was chromed but this new one is black.

The mounts that held the nuts for the two bolts to screw into (that hold the handle on) had broken away, being made only of plastic. The only thing holding the handle on were the two connecting rods. Mine was thus very loose.

The hardest part of getting the new one on was removing the spring clip that held the lock cylinder in. I ended up using the bench vise to hold it while I removed the clip.

My lock cylinder seems to only have about 45 degrees of movement either direction------it still locks and unlocks----but I find that to be odd. I'd expect it to move 90 degrees either way.

The plastic washers on the 8 tailgate cover screws have badly broken away....if anyone has a line on those please let me know.

 

Nice work, very clean. I've been working on some secret activities for my crossbars that I'll share soon. They've been making me want to switch to a full-on roof rack instead.
