How does the TRD suspension drive on the road?

Curious to hear from people that have over a thousand plus miles.

I’ve test drove the TRD and have driven a couple long trips in a non TRD and it was very nice, but maybe a bit lofty.

I’m curious if I’d be disappointed long term getting the TRD suspension vs the regular?

I don’t plan on lifting the truck at any point, maybe 34’s. Just want the best bang and ride for the buck.

    appreciated,

    David

Just an honest comparison from someone that has some miles on a TRD.

I like my TRD OR suspension on the road. It's not a sports car but handles well enough and really doesn't beat me up at all. And it isn't floaty. A lot of this depends on where you are coming from and what your expectations are. I can't really compare to other trims since I haven't driven them.

My last truck was a 2024 with TRD off-road package and 3" lift with 35s. It was the smoothest, best-riding lifted truck I've ever been in....

Until I got my Pro. It's even smother.

Toyota has the suspension well-tuned on these trucks. The rear coils help the ride a lot too.

    Nothing.
The 3rd gen TRD OR suspension is infinitely more comfortable on the road than the previous generation Tundra. It's firm, but not harsh, handles well with little body roll or road vibration, and the cabin is quiet - very little road noise. Toyota dropped the ball with much of this truck's design but the upgrade to a multi-link rear suspension and the narrowed, boxed frame made a huge difference in the drivability and comfort. If nothing else, I am happy the freeway bouncing with an unloaded bed is gone.

My 25 limited off road is the best riding truck I’ve ever owned. Have had a pile of tacos, 4 runners, and 3/4 ton Cummins with kings and everything else to make them ride nice. This truck blows them outta the water. Granted it’s 1/2 ton vs 3/4, but even compared to my pro Tacoma the tundra is much nicer to drive and ride in.

It's all relative, I came from an f250 crew cab long bed.... My tundra rides like a rolls Royce!

My last Cummins had full Carli front end with kings, had prolly close to 10k in that front end, and stock off road rides better. Crazy

My experience mirrors these. Firm, but not harsh. Very well controlled.
For me, I still know I'm driving a truck, but it's not an unpleasant ride at all.
I lost a little ride quality by going to 10 ply tires, but I also went from 20's to 18's and went up in diameter, so I gained a lot of sidewall.

It's all subjective really. My 20 had that same lofty ride. I decided to start switching it up. Got Bilstein 6200/5160 and after a while hated it with a passion. Switched to Fox 2.5 and all was way better. Yet you will have some say the 6200 ride great. Just like comparing a the ride of a 2020 with 60k miles on it to a brand new truck. Obviously a new truck will ride better but I would venture to same a blind test on a 2020 brand new vs a 25, it would be hard to tell the difference to the regular consumer. I also think seats play a role in comfort. The industry has shifted to square/flat bucket seat compared to back in the day when seats were more rounded and had more cushion. Also, for me having owned 4 tundras, my ride requirements have changed over owning those 4 tundras. So I depends on what your looking for in ride quality and it might take more than just switching out a shock to find out, its all subjective.

I've been very impressed with the ride of my OR Limited. By far, it was the smoothest ride I have ever owned. I say "was" because I upgraded to Kings last week. I know the Kings are far better than the stock shocks for off-roading, but on the street, I can't really tell a difference between the new suspension and the stock suspension that was just replaced. This truck drives amazing on the street.

I remembered how much I loved it on my ‘16 Tacoma over the non TRD. First 3G Tundra I drove was a non TRD SR5 followed by a Limited TRD OR and it was like night and day. The TRD OR suspension and the fluid cab mounts make it a very sweet ride. Have done seven 1200 mi 26hr trips in it and it’s so comfortable and effortless to drive. We arrive much more rested and relaxed than ever before.
