What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I just did out 5th gen this morning, ain’t any easier or harder

 

I’m tired, maybe it’s the Lexus I have a hard time seeing. at any rate…. Having had Audis prior (super easy to read dipsticks) I always wondered why Toyota/ Lexus dip sticks weren’t as easy to see. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t miss my Audis ,,,, I no longer do disposable vehicles….lol

 

Started doing the math after measuring the standard 265/70/16 tire and determined I need
4x25”+52”+30”+15”+3” length of 2x12” wood for just one ramp = 200”x 2 ramps = 400”/12” per ft=33.33 ft of 2x12” plank.

Figured I’d give these 30 year old made in USA ramps a shot first. Obviously using my Craftsman 4 ton jacks as a backup in case they collapse.



I may clean them up first though.

 

I’ve got a set of those. Havent failed me yet.

 

I just used an identical pair and they did just fine. However, as a precaution I stacked a couple of 4x4's+ underneath just in case they decided to squat.

 

A friend of mine has a series of wood ramps that allow him to get all four wheels of his truck up to two feet off the ground. They work, but in my opinion are a little sketchy, and it's a bit scary getting up onto them. Definitely requires a spotter. And they take up a lot of space. But they work. He helped me get my stripped front diff drain bolt out and I drove up on his setup. It was definitely nice being able to sit up under the truck.

 

Looks like they settled down about half inch. Will report back post allignment

 

I like this idea. This might be the way.

 

Damn, that’s gotta be up there if you can comfortably sit under the truck.

 

Thought maybe I had a photo still, but I guess I deleted it over 30 days ago. But yeah, he has 2x8s fastened together, stacks of different lengths creating a ramp onto the highest level. I won't say the lowest part of my truck was over my head, but most places under the truck, I could sit up.

 

Doesnt everyone have a set of those yellow ramps?

 

Changed the transfer case, and front diff oil. They needed it. Royal purple was all I could find other than store brands locally of right weight. Then took it for a drive on hunt lease to kick in the 4x4 for about 5 miles.

 

Looks like the company is still around making them but in black with supports for greater weight. Pricey though.

I've got some plastic ramps from when I used to change the oil on my pop's Honda Civic. Pretty sure I got em at AutoZone.
Looks just like these.

I've never used em for any of my trucks. I have thought about using em for a flex treat, but decided my ditch was the better option. Both for ease of use and articulation.

I tossed the stupid black plastic ones after I found the front of one cracked. These are actually made w/2x10s. They a little heavy but super solid and don't slide around at all

I believe in this configuration you'd get about 6" of lift and they are big enough to comfortably fit 35s on.

100% trust these over plastic ramps!!!

I never use them for my truck tbh. I use them for my wife’s JGC and the daughter’s Jeep Cherokee. I can just slide under my truck and do anything I need on a creeper there’s so much ground clearance.

Like they ain't both Cherokees to us.

 

I picked these up a long time ago for changing the oil on the Civic, I don't think I've ever had the Tundy up on them. Use for Ferd-Edge oil changes though.

Good solid covers, just needed a couple relief cuts in the flange because they were a bit TIGHT!

 

Yep, very similar! Yours are a bit nicer with the angled edges, but very much the same idea. He also has a vertical stack for the back tires. I drove up on the one like you show, with the front tires, then we used a floor jack under the rear diff to lift back up and set the other two stacks under the back tires. And yeah I'll bet his are also 2x10.

 

I've seen the older version of these on FB Marketplace for pretty cheap...I was hesitant, not knowing the quality or how previous owners had used them. I wasn't sure I trusted them. But it was a good deal.

Found it. Not quite as high as I remember, but 100% improvement over ground level.
