2001 Tundra SR5 Access cab 4.7L 4x4, 60k and 6yrs since last timing belt change (according to sticker). I took a peek at the belt and saw these markings along the length of the belt. Have you guys encountered this? IMG_0735.jpg

I also notice a lot of black shimery dust on top of the power steering pump, which seems to me to be dust from either the timing or accessory belt, or both

Dirt Deeds injectors, Addco rear sway, AEM dry flow air filter, last ever set of Stan's Try-Y headers, Borla full custom exhaust, front level, wheel spacers, and lots of electronics.
The outside looks good but check the inside. Cracks will start to form between the belt ribs before they show up on the outside.

The little stripes or what ever you want to call them just look like the structure of the belt. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

I doubt the dust on the PS pump is from the timing belt. Your timing belt should be housed behind a cover.

Simmery dust on your PS pump is maybe something else entirely. Without knowing anything else, my guess is swarf (dust from grinding). I've never seen simmery dust from a belt, and metal dust on external components is weird.

okay thank you for the advice! I will check the inside between the ribs as you suggested. My haynes manual says to replace the belt at 60k or 48 months. But maybe i can go a little longer :fingerscrossed:

The dust is black with almost a fiberglass shimmer to it. I looked at a new belt and I can see this same kind of shimmer, which is why i think it from a belt. But it may have been from an old accessory drive belt which was replaced and not cleaned up the area afterwards. I see what you mean though...the timing belt is enclosed so it shouldnt be dumping out its dust! The engine has 360K

Yes, haynes 92078 says to replace fuel filter, spark plugs, check/adjust valve clearances and inspect the evap system at 60k or 48mo whichever comes first. I checked my owners manual and it doesnt have any maintenance schedule. Bit disapointed by that!

You should download or buy a FSM. One of the reasons I love Toyota is their manuals are so much more detailed and easier to read than Haynes etc.

Was the dust definitely there before you opened the timing belt cover? The inside of the cover does get some dust accumulation which may have fallen out.
Also, the tb cover isn't really a perfect seal so maybe some dust could have worked through over time

No clue. Didn't have a sticker - nothing in the car fax. It had around 245k when I changed it - it was OEM belt but in too good of condition to be the original.

I don’t even know if I’d trust aftermarket for 60k miles
