Do you agree that having to press the ac button every time is stupid

Odd. I never have to press AC button when I turn off my truck. The little A/C ON is always on. I did turn off A/C Mode with AUTO in the Climate settings in the radio setting cause the A\C on wasn’t there whenever I turn the truck off and back on.

I never use the AUTO function. I like to manually control.

Mine is a 14 and the only time I have to turn off the ac is when it's set to auto. Otherwise it doesn't do it.

I guess as long as I get cold AC and hot heat when I need them, and that requires a button press or two, or heaven forbid, directing a vent where I want it, I'm not going to complain.
Could it be simpler and more intuitive? Sure:

    s-l400.jpg

And we could have manual transmissions, transfer cases and locking front hubs too.
But we know that isn't happening either.

I miss the old days too.

Shiiiii...AUTO???...there are worse problems for Toyota engineering to deal with. I'd like the truck to continue running when I've remote started it and arrive without having to restart it, I'd rather not have to press the auto-start/stop button every time I get in, and it'd be nice if someone could figure out how to get Carplay and Toyota info to agree on who is boss.

… and not just this. The Fresh Air / Recirc buttons do not maintain the status light, so I never know which I’m in unless my windows start fogging up, then I know it’s in Recirc. Simple firmware update would address this.

To be honest I hate that feature too. I see so many customers that think there is something wrong with their Toyota, since a lot of models do this now. Then you explain that it's normal and some will just say "ok I didn't know that" or "well that's fu**ing stupid!"

But then again I am one of those simpler is better types. I like manual transmissions, manual AC knobs, manual shifted transfer cases, etc. To me it's just more fun. But I understand why most people don't want that anymore.

I love and use the Auto feature in my truck and have never had to worry about the AC being on unless I want to turn it on. On long trips I just adjust the vents down some so they don't blow in my face if it bothers me although this time of year I have sunglasses on and never feel the air on my eyes.

I haven't touched my vents since I adjusted them nearly 2 years ago and never get air in the face. I use Auto 90% of the time, but even when I'm in a manual mode I've never had to hit the A/C button. My temp is always set to 68 degrees and it does whatever it needs to get there (hot or cold air). Ya, the A/C light should turn on and be accurate, but auto or manual modes always get me what I need. I got mine in peak summer heat, so in the beginning I was annoyed I had to hit A/C until I realized it changed nothing and to just let it be. At least that's how mine works.

Not 100% sure if this is what OP is even talking about but since I turned this off on my big screen my AC stays in the mode left it on when the truck was shut down. I also didnt care for the AC being not lit/auto when i fired the truck up.20250606_084545.jpg .

Don't you have a big screen that has text saying AC is on or off? I mean it's pretty big, so it should be somewhere written? Check the corners, or maybe toggle to a different page, or maybe click on button that opens AC options menu page? Or maybe it's hidden in the "system" page? Or it's minimized somewhere?

I'm not sure about that. Will have to check.

Yesterday the truck was sitting in the heat and sun with all the windows up. It sure was handy just hitting that AUTO button and getting a rapid cool down.

Just turn off “ac mode with auto” in the settings and that’s it. Literally they put it there for us not to bitch about it. I never touch mine and use manual 100 percent of the time.

I just did that adjustment & it's all good now
Not sure why it comes from the factory that way...should be the other way around
Furthermore, it makes no sense being labeled 'A/C mode with auto' when I'm not using using the auto mode & it would affect the functionality of the non auto hvac usage

Im so glad I made this thread
(Should have done it 3 yrs/130k miles ago)
I would have never figured it out
You think the salesman at toyota would have helped me resolve this when I test drove the gen 4 taco 3 weeks ago

Part of the reason this ac stuff was minor to me was because I live near crater lake & it rarely gets that hot here

    Thanks to those who help
No thanks for all the trash talk

I still think it's stupid for toyota the send the tundra from the factory in this setting
It should be default the other way from the factory, like the gen2, gen3, & gen4 taco

I wish there was some way to disable the auto stop start permanently, so stupid & annoying
Maybe someone has insight on this?

literally takes 30 seconds to install. Bye bye auto start stop. Best 25 bucks you will spend on mods I promise if you hate the start / stop feature.

Glad you got it figured out. Trash talking is part of the forum rules though (and if you refer to people as " 'auto hvac' idiots " your going to get some trash talk:thumbsup:)

And definitely pick up that start/stop disabler, easy install, and well worth it.

That’s the one that gets me. Last 4 Toyotas (cars and trucks) since 2009 won’t stay set to Fresh Air Intake start after start.
