At what point do you guys start using a WDH. I have one for my camper, but not for my horse trailer. The trailer is roughly 3500lbs with the horse in it, and I have factory bags. Haven’t had any issues, no sway, and I honestly forget it’s there. I assume I don’t need one at 3500# when the truck is roughly 6k#.
    Thanks!

Any trailer over 5000# is recommended by Toyota to have a WDH installed.

What kind of brakes on the horse trailer?

As @KNABORES said - over 5k trailer weight or over 500 lbs tongue weight WDH recommend. Just make sure you aren't using a WDH on a trailer with surge brakes.

I think the sway control bar is most important, I have one on my WDH and use it on the camper. I don't use it on the boat though. Might make the horses happier.

WDH is a good thing when you get it dialed in with sway control bars. Nowadays pulling 4k lb travel trailer I go without WDH because when we transition from paved road to offroad I have to put the WDH in the trailer and go with just the ball hitch.
