TRD Grill is too janky for Diode Dynamics light bar?

I installed the TRD Grill on my SR5. Seemed easy. I don't have a camera in that little hole - but that's fine. I installed the Diode Dynamics Light Bar and bracket. Seems like a nice piece.

Holy cow. I can't drive on a country road with that light on. The grill has so much flex - the light is flashing up and down off the road. You can see the beam of light jump and shake with every bump. Sky, road, sky road, sky, road.

So... I hop out... and tap on the grill. No Shit. That plastic grill has zero support and just vibrates and wiggles and dances.

    Am i the only one?

I guess I can build a strut that comes out from the Radiator Flappy Thing and supports the grill where the Camera goes...?

Did you install the upper and lower brackets as well, or just the side brackets? Mine has some flex but definitely not jumping all around like described

Its not the grille's fault...its that cheap pos kit DD sells without a proper support bracket. My baja designs light bar is SOLID.

Did your kit from with the upper and lower brackets or just the light bar surround?

I guess I don't know... What brackets? I feel like I'm missing something.

I'll have to crawl under there and look!
    Thank you for the photo!!

I installed the grill and light bar a year ago. I haven't used it much. It was so annoying last weekend. Not worth having.

I'll add one more thing...these brackets do not take the weight off the grille...they simply help distribute it. Those mounting points they use are for the grill shutters which are directly attached to the grille. Baja Designs and Westcott both use similar brackets but they attach to the truck itself and thus do not rely on the grille to support the weight. DD just went the cheap route and provided a janky little bracket. You bought the wrong kit :)

And no need to get under the truck...you can take a look from above

the brackets were included in my kit I got from Black Friday and were somewhat recent to that sale to be included. If you installed in earlier part of year, chances are you may not have the updated brackets.
To both Eddie and my point earlier, you still have some level of light bounce due to where those brackets mount to. An actual frame mount would have been much better to eliminate it but you get what you pay for and all.

exactly...theres a reason why Jeff's brackets alone are $200+. I actually think this is a superior mounting solution than BD's. Jeff mentioned that they noticed grilles fracturing when submitting them to continuous vibration w/o a bracket and thats why he designed this setup. Everyone else followed suit to match their price point.

Older kits didn’t come with them. Newer ones do. If yours didn’t email them and they’ll send it out. Made a big difference.

    Wow. You guys are Gurus.

No - my kit did not come with any additional brackets. I bought the kit from Diode Dynamics over a year ago.

Is the Westcott Kit superior? Would the Westcott mount fit my current DD Light Bar? Maybe that's my solution...

You can email diode dynamics and they’ll send their new brackets for free

Westcott kit is the best one out there and fits 20" bars...notice how it has the little < > wings on the ends of the opening to blend into the grille...very nice little touch. I'd call them and ask for the dimensions and compare to your DD bar

do you have a picture of how the two mounts install? Just installed mine but couldn’t figure out how to install the included vertical mounts since Heretic did not provide any instructions.

How have you liked your heretic light bar mount? Considering using that one but want to make sure it doesn’t have the vibration issue.

I have the Wescott kit pretty solid. There where a few angles that were off when mounting the brackets that I had to correct. Probably the worst part of the kit was the upper bracket interferes with the TRD marker lights, needed to trim for clearance.

love the heretic. Much brighter than diode, oem or Baja. After speaking with heretic, I was able to mount up the bracket correctly and now it’s very stable

I will say, that even with the DD mounting brackets, there will still be some jitter on the road over bumps. It isn't brutal, but it is noticeable. I'm sure the BD or WD brackets are much sturdier.

All you have to do for fogs is pull once piece of plastic trim off, not too hard other than avoiding breaking the clips.

    None at this point.
You can say that about any grill on new vehicles.
Gone are the days of the chrome steel bumpers no doubt.
But as has been shown the aftermarket people will find a way.
    Of course it'll cost ya....
