I did that up until a few months ago (MS SQL) - migrated 2012 server w/SQL Server 2012 to 2019 with SQL Server 2019, multiple databases with custom front-end websites, etc. Was not fun. You have my sympathies. LOL

Oracle is a lot worse. Seems like they purposely make things difficult haha.

I don't have much experience w/Oracle, but from what I've both seen and heard, it is indeed a lot worse to work with. Truthfully, once I got the migration done and stuff implemented, long as you set up audits and logging and backups and all that, really, MS SQL sort of just moseyed along and did its job.

My new gig is, Trophy Husband. I make about what I made on the GOV hamster wheel but with better hours and benefits. Only bad thing is lots of downtime. New hobbies include golf (I’m better at the small version), buying and building things that go boom, none of them I need, and trying to get a nice lawn in acidic soil.

I was in the parts department of a Navistar truck dealer for 20 years. 11 of which were as the department manager. Currently, I'm an account manager for a CNC machine manufacture. Don't really think it's my cup of tea. I'm crazy to say that I miss being in the automotive/transportation side of things. I'll probably start looking around.

The last 38 years I have been a sales rep selling mainly Pella but also have experience with Andersen, Marvin, Jeld Wen, Sierra Pacific and most recently Oknoplast, a uPVC window out of Poland. Before that estimator and manager for a commercial specialty contractor.m

Which would you recommend if you had to make one? I've long been a fan of Pella (well, Pella windows that were *NOT* sold inside a Lowe's lol).

Left psych and addiction medicine this time last year; lost a long time pt to an OD after he had years of sobriety and recovery. That one hit hard enough that it was time for a change after so much loss the past 5 years.

Now I work curing HCV across the state of AZ. Still get to work w the same demographic, but am going out to different treatment centers, homeless encampments, and carceral settings to test and treat. Mostly telemed but I am in the office way less and the work is still amazing. Renewed vigor and overall outlook has improved now that I get the opportunity to actually "cure" a disease process.

Pella has changed over the years from a small regional company into a huge behemoth of a corporation. They however continue to produce products that are really not up the standards of a lot of their competition and rely on their name recognition to sell products.

The Architect Series Reserve window however does compete with Marvin, Kolbe, Sierra Pacific and others. It has an extruded exterior cladding and an upgrade paint, EnduraClad Plus, that is resistant to fading over time.

Their vinyl products are no better, or worse, than the competition.

Impervia is a fiberglass window that is a good product but again there are others that are better.

If I was going to build a home I would find a Sierra Pacific dealer and look at their product offering. Lots of options and the pricing is very competitive.

That's awesome. The last project I did at my last job was for the Bangor Nuclear Submarine base in WA. I designed a machine for doing a certain service on the Trident class submarines.

Sadly, I recently had to "retire" from EMS, as much as I loved that job, my back can no longer handle the lifting and I have done some damage and I am paying for it in pain. Nothing I have gone to a doctor for, mainly because there isn't much they can do, but thankfully it's mostly controlled unless I do heavy lifting or move the wrong way! Nothing like sciatic pain to ruin your night or day! I should have quit a few years ago when the back pain first started, but it was hard to stop doing something that mostly never felt like "work". I have only been working per diem in EMS the last couple of years because of my company getting bought out, turning to shit, and about to loose the 911 contracts I worked in before I left (they finally lost all 6 of the towns I covered last March).

Anywho, I have finally accepted nursing and have grown to like (never thought I'd say that) my current job as a vascular access nurse. Nothing like being in a nice arm building during the winter months, and not having to drive all day in the snow, or wake up at 2 am for toe pain during a blizzard. The 24 hour shifts had also been wearing thin on me last couple of years working full time. As fun as EMS was, it's def a young person's game! I still miss it on occasion, but then I remember the bad parts. Now I am just chillin working (2) 12 hour shifts and an 8 hour shift collecting money and enjoying 4 days off a week, and an excellent work/life balance, with occasional OT when I feel like it!
