I didn't knew there is a reflash for the stock ECU.
right now I'm waiting for the jb4 to arrive.
but sure what it's the reflashign ECU offers?

ECU reflash software has all the parameters and logic inside the factory ECU. I make adjustments to min and max boost pressure, fueling, spark, power and temperature enrichment, waste gate controls, transmission controls, plus tons more. Then the software I use reprograms the ECU and in turn the motor and trans including the HV will create more power and will also be more efficient. Where plug in tuners are good, but don’t completely mesh with the ECU to deliver smoother performance.

basically. I have my truck tuned with VF tuner and it’s a large/noticeable improvement in everything from acceleration to transmission behavior. Shifting feels smoother under load, doesn’t seem to be lost in perpetual 9th gear at freeway speeds, no significant jerking when downshifting multiple gears, etc.

The only thing I don’t like is the software is fairly cumbersome, take a long time to flash, and leaves all kinds of evidence behind that you have violated the ecu lol.
I wish they had an app that allowed for different modes like the JB4 and that their cable updates were done automatically as an update when plugging in instead of finding out that it’s out of date when trying to flash/update certain settings.

The con is that it is an ECU reflash, and yes, if the dealership techs were to dig deeper, they could see that the ECU was reflashed. As for the engine recall, they could care less. You could drive through a river and hydro lock the motor and they’ll still homer the recall. The good this is, if you did have a scare, it can be reflashed back to stock.

since it's working inside the stock ECU, I don't think it offers multiple maps right?.
pretty much this will be your new "stock" base line right?ok I'll send you a inbox with more questions

What all does the JB4 look at and modify? I’m assuming it modifies the boost signals from the MAP sensors, but what else?

U B from Taco World?! Welcome! After all the "upgrades" to VFTuner and recent Emission Check Sum issues (or those in an Air Quality zone) I'd have to say the piggy back sysyem makes the most sense. Easy to remove for testing purpose. I finally had enought of Matt's newest and greatest update scheme, and rule changing and sold my SC Taco. No way I'm going down the ECM flashing path with my Gen3 Tundra. Either naked or piggy back for me. I'm sure VFTuner will yield some amazing results. Just no longer worth the expense or headache for me. My stock Gen3 Tundra is fine as is.

If it is anything but stock it is going to be louder and have a drone when towing. They will all say something contrary - and their sounds clips don't reflect what YOU will actually hear when towing. Find someone near you with a Gen3 and DD's or any other and go for a test ride with and with out Tow. If you want silence when towing stay stock.

Ya that’s for me for sure , I loved exhausts over the years , borla , ha! But no way on this little piss ant 3.4, don’t need a large mosquito or weed whacker noise while I’m driving lol.

    to each their own though

the low end torque and pulling ease though, yes please !

I ended up buying a JB4 as well, and returned the AFE prior to installing.

Yessir. Tuned the hell out of the 3rd gen Taco, but didn't want to spend the time figuring out all the mislabeled maps with my $75k TRD Pro. Piggyback was the obvious choice for me. Map switching is awesome and there's definitely power gains. Map 2 on 93 I can burn tires from a 2400 rpm launch halfway through 3rd gear on dry blacktop with 35s.

This is just crazy restrictive... I can handle so.e sound, but I dont want my cab to vibrate like the mrb exhaust did to the Taco.

I’ve been so tempted to weld in a cutout with a straight through muffler off the main pipe.
Had an Atlantic Built exhaust for a few weeks. Wife vetoed it nearly immediately.

I want to try this, but $1500 is a tad risky for me.

I did some digging last night and it seems that for the tundra it’s modifying the pre and post MAP sensors to manipulate the boost curve and then monitors all the other parameters via CANBUS.

seems all the safeties are left In place.

correct. It’s a single setting so you can’t flip between tunes on the fly. Would have been great if possible to change tunes with the sport/eco/normal modes. Those still function as the did before though. Didn’t get a chance to see the HP/Tq maps when tuning though to see what’s actually changed in these modes from the factory

I've had mine for about 4 months and I love it! Just kinda weird when it shuts off since I have a hybrid. Lol
