Hearing yalls fuel milage always makes me feel better about mine. My last tank was 15.5mpg.

 

Since regearing to 4.10's, Elvira got 17mpg going down i10 at 70mph. Used to get 19mpg with the 3.91 gearing.
Tell yeah what though, she runs the hill country is fourth gear and no down shifting when locked into crusie control

Something seems off. My MPG has dropped in the last year but I'm still getting around 15-15.5 on the highway. These KO3's are a little heavier.

How old are your spark plugs? I noticed the MPG on the RAV4 improved slightly after replacing the spark plugs. I think the ones on my truck are due. I have the standard ones that are supposed to be replaced every 30k I think. Not iridium.

 

Yeah, I don't get it either. You should be getting better MPG with the weight reduction mods that God has provided you with

It's weird because I see 50/50 on here. Some people V8/4WD get 15mpg. Some get same as me. Cab type doesn't seem to matter.

I could sit here and throw parts at it, MAF, coil packs, cam pos sensor, VVTi solenoids, injector, etc. But at that point my break-even would be years out.

At 66.6k miles, I wouldn't have expected the alternator to catch fire. But that said, I wouldn't expect the MAF or injectors or coil pack to be too heavily degraded after the current 82k miles on it.

 

For highway driving, speed makes a huge difference. Above 60-65 fuel economy goes down really fast...
There's also a big difference between a tank's worth of 5 mile highway trips and a tank's worth of 50 mile highway trips.

This is the only thing that makes sense to me. If I drive 75mph on the interstate here, I've got people honking at me, cutting me off, throwing me the bird. I rarely drive less than 70mph on the interstate, anywhere.

I typically average around 2100-2300rpm while traveling.

 

Another thing is quality, and level of ethanol content. I think it can vary a lot even going to the same station regularly. I know I've gotten some crap gas when I've hit a single didget mpg.

Well I do add 8% for my tire size. Not sure if others do that but I know my odometer is off because of my 285's.

 

Definitely know my odometer is off. To that point, my EXP are probably ~5.9% larger circumference overall. 238 miles x 1.059 = 252.042 actual miles traveled on 18.307 gallons = 13.767 mpg, let's just call it 13.8mpg

Still not great.

But that's also roughly what I averaged prior to the lift with mixed hwy/city driving, 13.5-14.5 mpg. Best mpg I ever saw was when I had to drive to the dealership (in Auburn AL) and back the first month I had the truck, bone stock in 2019, at 61k miles, I think? all stock tires, cruise control still worked without surging, I'm 2-3 miles from the interstate and the dealer is 1 mile off that same interstate, so I set the cruise control at 75mph both ways and drove door to door. 230 miles there and back, and that was after driving it home on what little gas it had. 333 miles on 20.542 gallons, 16.21 mpg. Best I've gotten since then is 14.3 mpg with a few fillups in the 13.1 - 13.6 mpg range, and worst I've seen is 9.12 mpg.

I have all my numbers dating back to when I bought the truck, pretty easy to flip through the historical. I just can't fathom why in the world mine (and one or two others on here) seem to have way worse - to the tune of ~15% less on average - miles per gallon than most.

Sadly my gas tracker doesn't let me amplify mileage. I really need to just get off my ass and Yellowbox the damn truck.

 

I'm assuming the adjusted for mine on 285s is different than 8% since re-gearing. I haven't bothered to to see what an ODO mile versus GPS mile is now.

I've also been meaning to build a table comparing my speedometer to both transmission sensor speed and GPS speed. I can pull the transmission sensor speed with my scan tool. My speedometer versus GPS difference is smaller since re-gearing, and the governor kicks in at a higher speed now.

 

Does regearing impact the odometer? I didn't know that.

 

For 2004 at least, or 04-06+. My speedo/ ODO comes from the rear wheel speed sensors. If both of them are unplugged, I get no speedo or ODO.

yes. Each truck mile is a little longer than a normal mile.

 

its a dynamic chassis special to the superleggera trucks. Just enough flex to make you nervous at normal speeds, kinda like going double the speed limit.

 

I would imagine on that particular truck that the portion of the cable you are viewing is the portion that has spent the most of its life wrapped up tight against the spool protected by the cable around it

 

Up here, they rust. When I first brought my truck in for the rear crossmember recall, the first thing the tech did was take a pry bar and snapped the cable holding the spare. Took very little effort. Got a new spare tire winch out of it though.

 

I'm on basically stock tires: 255 70 16, halfway between non-TRD and TRD stock tire sizes. Truck occasionally drops into 14mpg range for reasons I don't understand, but I generally get 15 - 15.5mpg with mixed driving. Basically no lift, fiberglass topper, 50-ish pound container with gear in the back. I only drop to 12mpg when I have the 900lb slide-in camper in the back or tow my trailer. I run ethanol (I don't pay attention to what percent) mid-grade. After trying my second tank in a row of ethanol-free premium I actually hit 16.something...very, very close the advertised 17mpg.

And to shifty`'s point, I think I agree. My spark plugs were replaced 45,000 miles ago, MAF, coils etc all original. And I'm getting on the higher end of average mpgs.

 

Got home to find out I received a mangled window weatherstrip assembly from Serra. Hoping they make this right and send a replacement.

 

If not, file a claim. That’s ludicrous.
