This is not ideal.

 

I had a tire get pinched before. Going under I-25 overpass on I-40 in Albuquerque, I hit a stub driveshaft that dropped off of a city garbage truck with the front right tire of my '03 Odyssey. Pinched the tire against the rim and it blew the tire, broke the edge of the rim, and continued on under the van and took out the lower control arm in the back on that side as well. There were 5 of us sitting on the side of the road when a city employee drove out and took our information to make a claim to the city. A Tacoma got his tire changed and left before she got down there. A poor Civic was behind the truck when it fell off and it took out both passenger side tires and had to be hauled off on a flatbeds. City paid for all of the repairs to the van.

 

I mean, it's Japanese, but I don't think we should bring the 1940s up.

 

I think they designed it with the idea of the baby seat in the passenger seat with the airbag turned off and the wife in the back.

Not terrible. This would be for mostly highway driving…

This is where you need those bars that allow you to hold it over the cab and bed.

 

The issue is loading it with my girlfriend. I’d prefer the roof too, but she’s like 5’1, and to put it on the roof she needs to stand on her tip toes with her arms fully extended, which is kinda hard for her to do with 40lbs. We’ve done it before, and I always worry that she’s going to drop it through the windshield…

 

Learning to plug tires with a Slime kit has saved me loads of time and money. I always travel with one. And every plug I've ever done has lasted until the tire needed to be replaced.

 

Can she stand in the bed, pick it up and move it on top while you handle the rear?

 

Found this little guy on the metal door leading to my external garage after a good night of rain. @khooiii is this a relative of yours?

Naw... just put a pool noodle on either side where the canoe will sit on the cab to cushion. Build a simple wooden rack to fit into the rear bed pockets and keep the back of the canoe at cab height. Tie onto front and rear bumpers. Canoe goes on upside down. Rope at the ends and a ratchet strap behind the cab into the bed. Stable at interstate speeds.

Let me add. I have put a 16 foot Grumman on a 1980 Luv truck..

Yeah, it would still be a bit of a process. I’m just trying to make it at simple and straightforward as possible. Usually when we go canoeing, driving there/back and loading/unloading usually takes longer than we spend in the water, which kinda sucks.

The canoe is really pretty solid. I was able to stand on the hanging end of the canoe and jump up and down, and it didn’t budge.

I’m sure it won’t slide out. I think your bigger concern is someone inadvertently running into it from behind.

Is it all back roads to get there or do you have to drive the highway? Back roads would be preferable.

If you’re doing it regularly in the nice weather, you may want to consider buying a rack for the back.

Almost entirely highway, there aren’t many back roads around here in suburbialand. I feel like highways would be fine, since there isn’t any stop-and-go? It wouldn’t be during any rush hour either. Idk.

You’re the first person to call it fancy! I got it for $75, it’s an ‘82 model that’s seen plenty of use…

 

but make it ‘fancy’.


I’d combine the 2. Add a hitch brace to the ‘saddle’.
