No problem, maybe I'm just sensitive today. :D

There's no doubt many mods are aesthetic and for show, not for function. On some level that's ok, so long as we're willing to admit it to ourselves.

If you stick around you'd see many members towing, offroading, using their trucks for hauling and work.

Regardless, I think these 2wd vs 4wd debates sometimes miss the point. Whether someone is doing "truck stuff" has little to do, I think, with the 2wd vs 4wd debate. Whether someone is doing truck stuff matters in the "do I even need a truck?" debate. Many people have trucks just cause they want a truck, and a Subaru would fit their needs just as well.

But once you have a truck, the issue becomes: it's rear wheel drive, with practically zero weight over the drive wheels. Once you've made the decision to own a vehicle with no weight over the drive wheels, it's now the conditions that determine a need for 4wd. Wet, snow, sand, gravel. Someone could work construction and be hauling a full bed of gear and supplies every day (aka #truckstuff) and not need 4wd. Someone else could have an F350 King Ranch Super Duty 4 door long bed that they bought solely for the purpose of commuting to their office job, and if they live in a snowy area, 4wd makes a ton of sense.

So...yes you have a point. There are a lot of mall crawlers out there. And even amongst those of us who get lifts and bigger tires, it's often just as much about looks as function. I don't frequent other areas of the Tundras.com forum, but at least in the first gen forum, there are a lot of people using their trucks like trucks, and a few of them are even 2wd.

Thank you, Sir. My friendly banter often times comes through as offensive. I will work on correcting that.

Glad we are still friends. Thank you.

back when i was in grade school and junior high, my parents used to have a 1978 F250 4x4. It was both our daily driver (of a family of 4) as well as as farm truck. The 4wd got used fairly often for farm stuff. Once that truck got worn out, they bought a very nice used 1977 F250 2wd (460 v8, auto). I drove that truck around in the snow all the time. No, it wasn't easy, but it did hone my driving skills. It's about a 750' elevation climb from the valley floor up to our house, so trekking through the snow up the hill was always a challenge. I don't recall ever installing tire chains on it. What was REALLY annoying was that the truck would lose traction and get stuck really easily in dry grass out in the field or pasture. Finally in my late 20's i converted the truck over to 4wd and the truck became a WHOLE lot more useful around the farm!

Could be worse, you could have one or more Taurus SHO's. I knew a guy who had three at the same time once.

lol…seriously though, back in grade school (early 80’s) and junior high my sister and i rode the bus. We lived in a fairly rural area, so we walked to the bus stop just like any other normal kid would. What was different about us though, was that we had to walk through the neighbor’s pasture to get there. It started out by climbing over the barbwire fence, walking through a field, reaching the electric fence, but before attempting to limbo between the two hot wires, we would have to scan for the bull out in the field! If he was close at all whatsoever, it meant backtracking our steps.

Yes, there was multiple times we got hung up on the barbed wire. Yes there was multiple times when we got shocked my the electric fence. We did get chased by the bull a few times too. It was always scary as all get out. By the time we got to the bus stop i’d be wet and muddy..and that was pretty much every day here on the wet side of oregon. The bright side was that we never got chased by indians!

Even if I lived in Arizona, which I don't, I'd never buy a 2wd truck. I bought one once decades ago and never again. They do not GO in the snow and I don't give a rats arse what kind of weight you put in the bed. JMO though. Better resale on 4wd too.

I mean, if anyone challenges you, you can always tell 'em yours came with the highly coveted bluetooth CV axle/diff/transfer case option. Maintenance on the bluetooth units is expensive and a total bitch to find anyone competent, though.

One of these days I'm going to install a supercharger on my toilet, maybe it'll help me "evacuate" faster. It'd be nice to finish in 2-3 minutes instead of 5-10. It'd really kill my phone surfing time though.

Yup, I'm a subscriber. Triple shot every morning, here lately. Used to be a double shot, that wasn't quite doing the job these past couple years.

I think my insides just aren't quite made like everyone else's insides. I wish we could bluetooth transfer solid waste out of our bodies. That'd make it really fun for assholes who want to visit one of the nearby shops who think it's their business to park directly in front of my walkway, making it difficult to get out of my own yard. No other cars anywhere on the street, these assholes think it's somehow OK to park such that you both block someone's mailbox AND their walkway/exit.

But knowing my luck, it'd glitch out, mistake me for a piece of shit, and transfer all of me instead.

I bought my first 4wd truck. It's not a tundra, it a 98 GMC Z71. I tried it out the other day by getting in a steep incline of wet grass. You could feel the rear posi kicking in and out as the truck tried to go up the hill. I stopped, push the 4 HI button, wait for it to engage and off I went up the hill. No spinning, nothing, just pure traction helping the truck make it up. Now, I have to real use for 4wd here in FL. I do have a boat and it can be helpful at the ramp, but in all my years of owning 2wd vehicles and using them at the boat ramp, I have never needed 4wd. But there is always a firat time for everything. I do own a 2025 MDX with SH-AWD and it's way better than the FWD MDX.

    The worst part?
I grabbed my ski rope and doubled it up and hooked it up to the front of the truck.
    And stood there waiting.
The next guy in line finally figured out he wasn't going to be launching his boat if he didnt give me a quick pull.

Reminds me of taking a buddy fishing and he insisted he could back up the boat on the ramp.
He immediately had trouble backing up the boat.
The next guy was pitching a bitch about my buddies lack of ability trying to put the boat in the water.
I eventually told him to just hold the Bow rope and pull the boat to the side after I backed it in.
The Guy that was bitching backed down the ramp like a pro!!
Except he forgot to disconnect the bow line from the winch.
He proceeded to haul ass up the ramp...and dragged the boat on the skeg halfway up the ramp with the bow barely sitting on the trailer.
Everyone waiting Busted Out in Gales of laughter!!!
The guy winched his boat back on the trailer while his buddy backed up the truck.
And they left.....Poetic justice comes to mind....
