If you are from Wisconsin and Minnesota lake country, you ice fish. Probably tow trailers in winter, whether for work or pleasure, and snow covered rutted icy roads are a normal for at least a couple months of deep winter.
About every other truck is pulling snowmobiles or a RV style ice house on the weekends when the ice reaches two feet. There are more marked snowmobile trails than paved highways in both states. Both industries are huge up here.
Folks from the south don't understand how many people are on the lakes in winter driving their vehicles to drop a line. More than boats in summer.

I buy groceries. I also cook. Sometimes I even kill what I cook.

2wd is a car, not a truck. End thread.

I think this really hust depends on where you live and what you do. I live in West Texas and we don't get ice and snow. He'll it only rains like 3 times a year here in Midland. If you need 4WD here, it's because you were looking to get stuck. Up north though that makes way more sense to have.

I've been a passenger with folk who have 4x4 and go to construction sites to deliver materials. Having that 4wd ability might have clouded their judgement at times, to put it mildly.

    Find the minority report.

It can get slippery both during and right after a snow storm on your way to grocery store to park in the salt flat they call a parking lot.

Wisconsin can get really cold and snowy, so 4WD may come in handy.

That being said, a RWD truck that is properly equipped for winter weather will do just fine.

The proper tire for the situation will make more of a difference than 4WD in most light off-road and on road situations. If you're wheeling 4WD is invaluable, but that's a specialized use case.

If I lived somewhere with a lot of snow, 4WD. I was stationed in Fort Drum and had a 2WD truck, I had to put some weight on the bed but even then it was not fun to get to work in the snow. Later on I bought a 4WD truck just in case I got stationed where we get lots of snow and in 7+ years I used it maybe 1-3 times. So I got 2WD truck now as I don't need 4WD.

    None at this point.
Living in South Texas snow is pretty unheard of and Ice is only an issue maybe once a year.
The things I like to do makes four wheel drive a necessity.
I've been in plenty of places where I would have gotten stuck without a doubt if it weren't for four wheel drive.
Mainly while at the beach and driving to the backside of the island.
You'll run across mud that will definitely stick a two wheel drive and even four wheel drive.

I grew up with 2wd Nissan pickups and got stuck 4 times. All 4 instances were entirely self caused and I should have known better. A fun almost was a flooded train underpass, 3 feet of water will float the back of a pickup truck, but I made it so I know to never do that again. I can’t speak about ice or snow, but I’m sure there are plenty of people in 2wd trucks up there, so it’s not impossible. I’d imagine though that if you’re a great outdoor type, than 4wd is only fit for ya. Bsmart and real about your needs and wants in this purchase. I’ve always felt that my 2wd trucks were more than capable of, I just have to be the smarter monkey.

Living in ATL as well…working in construction. My rwd truck does fine truck things. I can drive it through my jobs fine with at tires. I don’t need 4wd neither do 9/10 of the people who have it the city in this climate. I had 4wd during the “snowpocolypse” and I still waited in 8 hours of traffic like everyone else. Right now in life my priority is feeding my kids and saving for their future so I can’t justify a 3k just to look at a badge.

Technically your tow rating goes up with 2WD. Gas mileage a little better and no transfer case or front differential to mess with. If you don’t need 4wd, I wouldn’t get it. I off road enough that I had to have it. But I think 2WD still comes with tow haul mode. Most trucks down tow. Up until the early 2000’s most trucks were always 2WD.

I am an hour east of Atlanta and my work truck is 4WD, not so much for snow & ice but for super slick wet Georgia red clay. I even added a TRD/Kazuma LSD to my 4WD to increase traction because Georgia red clay has the potential ruin your day.

Maybe we should take a poll. I honestly don't know what the average user base is here, but out of those who post often, I'd say most use their truck like a truck. And are males. And also get groceries with them. Quite a few of the most frequent posters are doing truck things with their trucks here in 1st gen. Not sure how it looks under other gen forums.

Lifting and putting bigger tires on isn't 'truck things'.

A 2wd truck without significant weight in the bed will be a handful in the snow but i'll choose a 4WD over the 2WD

Having no idea what year Tundra you have, I can't tell if you're trolling us or just joking. Do you have actual info to contribute, or do you just want to tell us what kind of people you think we are? Seems like you wandered into the first gen forum because of a 2wd vs 4wd thread title and decided to tell us all how you somehow know us better than we know ourselves. I hope it works out for you. :)

I am sorry if it came through wrong. What I was trying to say is there are numerous threads about comfort features and leveling the truck and offsets on wheels, and that in my opinion, is not core truck stuff that suits truck, but rather, an ego boosting or comforting for the driver. None of those things are needed to make a truck more capable for 'truck stuff'. Hence, posting of lifted crown vic.

I forgot and/or didn't notice that this thread is in first gen forum, because this is a generic name and first gen isn't any more capable than other gens with 4 or 2 wheel drives, hence my confusion.

Please carry on and I will show myself out.
