Lando’s last lap was scalding… nice to see him getting back to form.

I am glad they mandated two pits. No track should have the winner set by the qualifying lap. Will be interesting to see if some teams delay their 2nd pit (or even the 1st) waiting for someone to bring out a VSC.

Will be interesting for sure ... Max moved up to 4th and he's a launcher on starts. Not a fan of Max, but dude can drive a race car, any race car.

Monaco is such a hard track to pass so everyone assumes pole will win. But only 4 of the last 9 poles have won. And about 45% historically in 70 years or so. The average for all other F1 races is over 40% so it’s not much higher chance to win from pole at Monaco. Even more so with this mandatory 2 stop.

Yup. Not a fan neither but I think he’s currently the best driver in F1. First time in a long time someone’s won the drivers championship in the “not the best car”. Lando gotta be happy Max isn’t lined up next to him.

Yup, no one can drive the #2 car and he goes secret squirrel status to Nuremberg Ring and smashes the GT3 car record by 2 seconds. Dude's got skill.

Now that’s the kind of race I want to see at Monaco. Two mandatory stops for the win

I have mixed feelings. It also forced some pretty interesting race strategy that wasn’t pleasant to watch!

    None at this point.
F1 came to Houston years back.
At least I think it was F1.
We bought pit passes and the whole nine yards.
It was exciting but only being able to see a small portion of the track kinda sucked.

ChatGPT says F1 has never raced in Houston. But suggests “Houston has been the site of major open-wheel racing events. From 1998 to 2001, the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series held races on Houston’s downtown streets, adjacent to the George R. Brown Convention Center . After a hiatus, the event returned in 2006 at a new temporary circuit around Reliant Park (now NRG Park) and continued through 2007 . The race was revived again in 2013 and 2014 as part of the IndyCar Series

That sound right? Either way, it would be cool.

One thing I like about oval tracks let you watch the whole race. We went to a Formula E race last year and it did suck not being able to see most of the race as it happened.

Yep...all I remember it was open wheel racing.
    This was many years ago.

The two stops definitely added some chaos and excitement but as usual Monaco was a dud in terms of racing. I only remember seeing one pass on track the entire race. Think it was Gasly on Antonelli and then seconds later Antonelli put him in the wall. Lol.

They’ve made Monaco too safe, where if you don’t want to get passed, it’s easy to drive flat out and not get passed. The biggest passing spot used to be after the tunnel, at the bottom of the hill at the Nouvelle Chicane. There used to be a barrier there that forced drivers to brake early. Without the barrier, everyone just brakes late and runs through the chicane if they can’t make the turn. No one passes there anymore.

I love watching them drive Monaco. Such a difficult track and it takes real skills. But I think they’re going to make changes there soon. They tried with the 2 stop but that’s not going to cut it for the modern F1.

The cars have also gotten too large for the streets of Monaco!

The cars are too large and fast for that track; I think the history and legacy of Monaco is what keeps them there. They’d never accept that anywhere else. In the end it does present a unique challenge and highlights a different style of driving and car performance.

In the end I wouldn’t want it any other way. Two pit stops adds a bit of complexity and strategy risk/opportunity so it elevates the race without compromising the history.

Great race, a lot of great action!

Max demonstrated at the end of the race exactly why I don’t like him a whole lot. Sore loser!

Yeah, he went full tilt. I still don’t understand the call to pit for hard tires, but I am sure the numbers don’t support my armchair strategy. But Max went and took it out on the other drivers and that’s just uncalled for.

It was a decent race for sure. My wife is really over all the Hamilton/Ferrari/strategy banter from the announcers. Every week it’s the same thing and she was just yelling “Shut up!” today at the TV.

Fun quali! Russel 2 years running - good on him!

    Norris shit the bed.

    Sainz was a heartbreak.

That Williams engine cowling blow out was crazy. Was hoping Lewis would get better than 5th.

The battle between the two McLaren's was epic until it wasn't. Nice finish for Mercedes and congrats Kimi.

yeah they’re likely going to have to make a choice in the next few months who they want to be the primary driver….. not sure Norris will ever be satisfied being a secondary driver and Piastri is performing like a #1. I am a big Alex albon fan but he hasn’t had much luck lately.

Best quote of the season thus far was from Alonso yesterday when told to take it easy on the tires in two corners: “We’re racing not testing”.

Norris’ biggest problem recently, IMO, is he’s up in his head. The media and F1 podcast I listen to just pile wood and fuel onto the “there’s gonna be a fight soon” fire and stoke it. That utterly stupid move yesterday makes me wonder if he can ever recover…at least this season. Being demoted to #2 will put more pressure on him. I just don’t think he’s got the mental fortitude yet.

But a good race overall. Kimi continues to amaze me…

I agree ; I think Lando is his own worst enemy. even on the drive to survive shows, he is keenly aware of the chatter and admits how much it affects him. Good on him for being honest, but the real successful drivers can block all that out and compartmentalize it on race days. He seems to give into the narrative honestly.......

Alonso is awesome- the guy has been doing this for a lot of years. I love the way he goes about his business.

Kimi has been impressive. And Mercedes is definitely showing that they are not dead yet. I just wonder if he can sustain this level of success at such a young age. He hasn't shown me anything to prove otherwise but it is a long season and expectations of a continued upward trajectory could consume him.

When they announced during the race that Lance Stroll is the 2nd youngest podium sitter (behind Verstappen, of course), I had the same exact thought. Stroll had a hot start to his career and look at him now. He hasn't done didly squat in the 175 races he's participated in - 3 podiums, no wins. We all know why/how he still has his seat in F1.

I'm really hoping Kimi can keep the hot hand going! He seems like a great young racer and I hope he doesn't pull a Stroll...

Am I the only one in the world not interested in the F1 movie? The hype is nuts. Even the F1 news app is nuts.

Hold my beer… let’s lose our mind about a movie filmed during actual racing and just forget about the actual racing stuff. :monocle:

I'm interested in it because it was filmed during actual races. It should be the most realistic take on F1 in movie format that we've seen!

When I was at the Vegas race, we watched a bunch of movie cars on track and they had the crowd involved during the filming, pretty cool if you ask me!

I am planning on going to the theatre to see it - that would be the first movie I've gone to in theatre in 7-8 years. So they certainly got me hook, line and sinker. But I'm a die hard F1 fan, hence why I started the thread lol
