Big change for Fotnot! My last day was today with the company I've been with for almost 7 years, but am now going to work remote out of my home for a company out of Washington! Maybe one day I can go out there to visit some co-workers and some of our tundra Washingtonian brothers/sisters.
This will work out better for my family to allow more flexibility with them....especially while they're young. Gonna be a challenge for my extrovert personality, but I'll make it work.:D

Congrats on the new gig! You can still socialize, you just don't have to do it with coworkers anymore.

It's kinda funny. I got a call saying I may get laid off if we don't get more work. I start making calls n texts. At this point, I've called it and knew it was slow...then I ended up being home for about 3 out of 5 weeks with no work. Got this in the works and was a long process due to out of state remote work. I get a call after and my company farmed me out to work at a refinery plant (Citgo) and even got a raise to go out. 6-8 weeks later as expected, i get the call saying the new company can take me on and I put in my 2 weeks. I was at work for under 3 months at citgo and they learned my personality and wondered how'd I do it working at home....and then were upset I was leaving cuz I did my work and we cut up and joked while I was there (makes for an easier work environment). They understood my situation and don't blame me at all for leaving.
I'll build a schedule to decompress in the day with activities to give my eyes a break and open my mind up to relax.
Looking forward to this, but would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't nervous

Embrace it.... Sometimes forced change can steer you directions that you normally would not have explored, and you later find the results to be beneficial in numerous ways!!!

I understand being nervous about the change, but sounds like you've got a really good game plan and as long as you have some dedicated space to separate work from the rest of the household when it's time to grind, I don't see why you wouldn't be successful.

Fortunately I do have a dedicated work space. We turned our formal dining room into an office. I'm finishing clearing it out this weekend and will post pics once done. I think it'll work nicely for us.
We'd been wanting an office for our kids to do computer homework and to run our future business out of, and then this kinda happened anyway.
My wife and I both believe it's the right move, so that helps honestly

Sounds like a great strategy. When our girls were younger my wife worked from home and loved the freedom it gave her to always be there for them. What a great opportunity to be more involved with your kids as they grow up.

Congrats! I completely understand about the extrovert thing. I'm not really an extrovert, but I do prefer to be around my coworkers, which is why I work from home a lot less than I am able to.

It is a difficult adjustment. couple things that helped me... this forum... its active enough to help me feel engaged since I am not longer ground pounding a warehouse with 300+ employees. Also, get dressed and put on shoes. When I dont, i get a lot less done at work. keep your office space seperated from your fun time. Very easy to get distracted. Get a standing desk. Sitting gets old fast.

Enjoy the relaxed and lower pressure life!
