I’ve got $20k to spend on a used Tundra. Not afraid of high miles (I have had two Siennas with over 250k miles that still ran strong). Will be driving less than 2k-3k miles per year as this is a third vehicle just for hauling and towing short distances. Any model years to avoid ? Any recommendations out there ? Best places to look for a used Tundra for sale ? TIA

I have found great success on True Car. As for what to avoid, not really sure. I had a 2nd gen, but have heard some good things about the 2.5 Gen and the 1st Gen. I loved my CrewMax because of the space in the back but again, it depends on what you need.

How heavy do you have to tow? How much cab space do you require? If you can get away with the smaller first gen, you could probably save a few bucks. But I feel there's more little things to look for, other than power train wise. Mostly rust and lower ball joints. 2005-06 would be my choice of years if going first gen since you get the vvti and 5 speed auto. More power and economy. I feel like second gen (including 2.5 gen) have less little things to look out for but will be more expensive and use more fuel. But will tow much better and have more cab space. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any good running, well maintained v8 toyota period. Rust and little things aside.

For your budget - you're probably looking at a late 2nd gen or early 2.5 with some miles. Browse the site for things to look for when buying a used 2nd gen - I think car care nut has a video on point.

    Having towed with both a 4.7 and a 5.7 - the 5.7 isn't a little better, it's a lot better.
