500-600 will get you the very best knives on the planet and they’ll outlast your grandkids. Anything above that is for collectors pieces that will never get used.

    None at this point.
Did a search on it the other day.
And I actually remember a lot of the places they highlighted.
I've gotten way to Conservative to want to live there these days.

    Definitely never been a collector.
I expect to use my knives, same goes with guns.
While I am guilty of impulse buying on occasion I usually spend a lot of time researching what I'm buying if it's an expensive item.

I used to think it was a long drive from Gessner and 59 to Fry Road. We remodeled a run down house back in the early 80s for their office (some builder) to sell homes and lots out of. The first place to start Katy growing way back then!! WOW!!! :)

Obviously I have thoughts on this topic. I absolutely agree with your price ceiling, if you are talking about production knives. When it comes to true custom knives, it’s a different matter. Using the word “custom” means different things to different people, kind of like saying “natural” or “organic” when you’re describing food products.
A well respected knife maker told me years ago, to NEVER sell any custom knife for under $300, and I try to adhere to that. Most people who come and visit my shop and learn about the process and stuff that is involved, almost always say, “You don’t charge enough!”.
Maybe, but I mainly want to cover expenses and pay for the habit. I do put an unusual spin on “custom”, though. Several times, I’ve had clients actually send me the wood that they want used for the scales. I still have to cut it, treat it and stabilize it before it goes on a knife.
The high end chef’s knives are really guilty of increasing the fun of preparing a meal.
Of the hundreds of knives I’ve made and sold, I’m only sure of about 6 that are not used, and are in a safe or on a mantelpiece. Just my 2 cents, and I don’t really think my opinion counts for much anyway

Yes, I was specifically referring to production knives. Custom is a completely different story.

Funny thing about this is when my wife’s grandpa died, we were offered the ranch in Yoakum. Including some farm equipment and stuff. I declined and don’t think we made any mistake. I am not really comfortable with the way many people think, here in Oregon but after living my whole life in the southwest in construction, I don’t really care much for sunshine and really detest the heat! I guess it’s just a good thing we don’t all want identical things!

I’m not positive, I’ll look into it though.
I typically buy what I like, and just watch what and where I’m carrying. My daily carry for the last 4 years has been a Microtech LUDT. The OTF’s I only bring out once in a while, more of a collector and use for trading.

    2200f+/- for your information.
Plus, if you’re ever able to get your derelict ass up here to see the shop, you will be very impressed with how I have built a system to evacuate the heat!

It’s also very nice that now I can choose the time and day to fire up the furnace (forge), instead of having to step out of the door directly into it every work day! Love the retarded life, uh… oops, retired life!

A couple of items with blades I got from my grandpa.

    PXL_20250521_020956001.jpg

The small hatchet has Made in Sweden on it. I already cleaned it up and rehung it.
    PXL_20250522_212245963.jpg

The big axe head is currently in progress. The knife is interesting. I can make out made in usa on it, but I don't know about the other markings.
    PXL_20250522_212843488.jpg

The hand planes are sweet. One is a made in USA base with made in Canada blade in like new shape. The other is a vintage classic Stanley No. 4 that needs a new rear grip.

The drywall axe will probably get a new handle and become a apocalypse weapon because reasons.

Wonderful to get those family mementos, and cool to see them get back in working order!
I think that’s possibly a shingling hatchet (for wooden shakes and shingles). Maybe not a drywall hatchet. Similar but the head is different
Drywall hammer heads have rounded edges so you can leave a dimple for the mud but not break the paper.

Benchmade is one of my favorite manufactures. I love that they are American made and that they don't have a cheaper line up of Chinese made offerings like sone American companies. My next Benchmade will be an AFO2. They used to issue these to the Airforce and they may still i don't know. My workmate that has a couple said they used to hand them out like candy he had 3 or 4 at one point.
