They were a big deal from the 30s until the mid 70s if my memory of history serves. Then they came out with the kind that shoot straight out. Not sure what else they are called other than also switch blade.
Even though I make knives, I'm not really interested in making folders. That being said, yes, a gun thing. I can relate!!

I was going to say from the early forties to the late 60s, so I would have been close. I vaguely remember the talk back in the day what the cool thing was back in the 50s and 60s. HA!!! :)
I think in the early 60s there used to be what looked to be a switchblade but you push the button and a comb popped out.
Much simpler times back then and I think a lot of people were very naive long ago. :)

Yep, the switchblade comb was around for a looking time!! Can probably still get one. And yeah, much simpler times back then.

I have more knives than I should have, from KBar to Barlow, Bayonets too, I carry a folder always (Benchmade Adamas) and have a thing about keeping them razor sharp.

    FYI
An OTF Knife, also known as an out-the-front knife, sliding knife, telescoping knife, or angel blade, is a pocketknife with a blade that opens and closes through a hole in one end of the handle.

I’m relieved every time the USPS gets one to the destination! Have had a few issues through the years and they actually lost a knife once!
Looking forward to seeing you post some pics of your mushroom hunting adventures!

USPS here in Alamosa has been pretty good with deliveries so far. We are starting to get the afternoon thunderstorms. Hopefully that will continue thru the summer. Need that to happen for a decent mushroom season. You don't have a rain issue. Ha

Most of the sites will just have a box you need to check saying you understand and agree to abide by the laws in your state. That puts the onus on the buyer and covers their asses. BTW, in Texas there are no restrictions on knives so you never have to worry about it.
It’s honestly silly for anyone to ban them. I can open a flipper faster than I can an automatic.
Strangely enough, Pro-Tech is based in California where most of their auto knives are illegal. There’s a blade length restriction there that only a couple of their models fall under.
Pro-Tech makes by far the best automatic knives in the industry and they can’t even carry most of what they make at home.

Almost all of their knives are reasonably and competitively priced. They do make some with special materials, engravings, etc that are super expensive but those are more art pieces that they make for special events.
They had one at Blade Show last year that was 10k. They only made I think ten of them and they sold them all the first day.

They were nice enough to let me hold one though.

When I was in highschool everyone carried Buck Knives.
Back then the school district didn't care if you carried a pocket knife.
It was in the small town of Katy Texas where opening day for deer hunting was an excused absence,as were opening days of Duck and Goose,
I dont think I ever saw a Pickup without a rifle/shotgun rack in the back window in the school parking lot.
And there were Rifles and Shotguns in them.

Pretty much the same where I raised in Oregon back in the day. Oregon is way different now. Colorado is nutz now. With everything.

    Pushing 60.
Used to be pretty much nothing between HWY 6 and Katy in the early days.
Kinda Sucks how developed it's gotten.
On the plus side all the woods we use to explore as kids are still there.
As you probably know it's all Corp. of Engineers property and there's thousands of acres to get lost in!!!
We found all kinds of cool stuff.
Right off Clay Road in front of the first gate to enter Bear Creek Park there's a gate.
If you were to go through the gate and drove maybe a quarter mile you'll come across a staging area.
It was pretty cool, there's an enclosed kitchen and stand up tables were they ate....standing up.
There was a 20 hole latrine as well.
If you get on one of the Satellite sights they have and you can see just how massive the woods are.

Yeah...I've heard that the land of Fruits and Nuts otherwise known as California are retiring in the neighboring states.
And they're driving up home prices like crazy!!
They'll sell what amounts to a shack for a million bucks or more in California and they're flush with Cash and overpaying for properties.
So yeah....the locals aren't to fond of them.

Lived in Washington State as a Kid.
My Dad was the head trainer at WSU and one day he got a call.
He was offered the Head Trainers job for the then new Houston Rockets. It was originally going to be the San Diego Rockets,my parents had even bought a house there.

In the end I wouldn't leave Texas if you paid me!!!
Love it Here!!! Once you get used to the heat in the summer it's Great place to live!!!
We paid $500K for the house we live in now.
Something like it California would easily be in the Millions!!!

You’re about ten years ahead of me then. I grew up in NE Harris County. While it’s still somewhat rural it’s definitely seen a lot of changes as well.
Never spent a lot of time in the Katy area as a kid but went through it a lot on the way to visit family in Sealy and Columbus.
