Does anybody know if there is a company that makes a plastic or metal cover to seal off where the hood latches?

Put a tarp there when working and remove when done.

Also: :crapstorm:on my 2nd gen, the whole front grille goes up together with hood and makes working so much easier! Not sure why they stopped this idea on 2.5gen and up.

B/c if you slammed your hood (with grille attached to it) on a 3rd gen, the entire front end would just explode and fall to pieces!

    Agreed.
Internet once again proves, with little handyman prowess, one can make a functional alternative if off the shelf product isn't available.

And also for 3rd gen owners who buy $65-70K car and do not have enough brains to look in to the manual to learn about all the features they payed for. It so much pisses me of, the stupidity of those jerks.

Design in CAD, (cardboard template for overall shape) transfer to 1/8" aluminum sheet, cut out with weapons of choice, smooth edges, a couple cutouts for protruding bits, more smoothing of edges, secure with O.E. type push pins. Paint / powder coat to desired finish. Easy-Peasy. ;)

    Yes, thank you..

I mean I can get the OP's OCD about wanting to cover this.
My OCD isn't that bad, at the moment.

I would just have a rolling cart in my work area to keep tools, parts, etc.
    But I guess I'm a little spoiled with my Gen 2.5 ..:eek2:
I still am somewhat concerned about dropping stuff because it would land on my Pro skid plate instead of falling to the ground.

It is a huge gap. Why would it not have had a cover. Cleaner look also.

    Yes, you're welcome.. ?:p
I wasn't intentionally directing my reply to you despite quoting you. Should have been clearer.
It was more of a follow up to your statement of "Shirley it shouldn't take much to fabricate such a thing.."

Not that I'm OCD or particularly prone to dropping tools, now this thread has me considering making one just because.

    NO, I understand.
You just helped visualize what I had in mind..
The older I get, the more my OCD kicks in about anything.
