Okay, I could have sworn I saw an option for a timer, or maybe an on/off option, for something called a Home Light..Get Home Light…or something along those lines. I either saw it in the infotainment settings or in the Carista app. But, I cannot for the life of me find it again.

    2 questions:

    1. Am I going crazy and have dreamt about that?
    2. If I am not going crazy, where is that setting and what exactly does it do?

I wired up some vent lights today and get I lock my truck the vent lights stay on for about 15 seconds;I’m wondering if it has something to do with that setting…if it even exists.

Your not crazy. It is real. I think you get to it in the multimedia display. Try digging down through the settings.

Unfortunately I did without any luck. Unless I’m just completely overlooking it. Any idea what it’s under? Also, any idea what it actually does specifically?

I don't have my truck here, but I think it may be under doors.

I also think it is in Carista if you have one.

No. I think Toyota calls it “follow me home” but I can’t find the setting for it. It basically will leave the headlights on for a set period of time after you get out and lock your car to light the path you’re walking.
I could have sworn I saw it but maybe I only read about it? No clue. Lol

What exactly do you need the truck do?

I installed vent lights and grill lights and have them powered with the thick red wire from the passenger headlight (premium headlight). When I turn my truck off and lock my truck the vent lights and grill lights stay on for about 10-15 seconds (all other exterior and interior vehicle lights are off).

I was wanting to look more into the “follow me home” settings to see if that setting could be why the lights are staying on and, if possible, adjust that setting.

However, I cannot find the “follow me home” settings

Is it possible you were thinking of HomeLink and its ability to control home lighting?

The headlight delay? It has auto off timer for 30, 60, or 90 sec. It’s in the infotainment setting. Vehicle customize and Lights. Auto off timer.

It's wired into the headlights silly.
They stay on when the doors are closed..

What I am describing happens after I get out of my truck and lock my doors. All lights are completely off. Including the headlights, running lights, and interior lights; but the grill lights and vent lights that I connected into my headlights stay on for 10-15 seconds.

As mentioned, I have the Premium Headlights and they use a CANBUS system…so, they’re getting power to that this red wire somehow. :/

See my comment directly above this. The headlights are completely off during the action I am describing. Ye stalk is on auto, but the headlights themselves are turned completely off.

Gen 3 wiring is very sensitive to change.
Not being a smart ass, it's just the way it is.
Premium headlights have their own ECUs and such.
    It's a very complicated circuit.

What happens when you disconnect your vent lights?
Does it go back to normal with everything back on and timing out?

Which headlight did you connect the vent lights to, right or left?
Which wire (color/pin number) and connector did you connect the vent lights to?

Maybe disconnect the wiring you did to see if it normalizes? My headlights definitely stay on for a bit after exiting the truck.

My factory headlights are not having any issues at all. What I am describing is happening to the vent lights and grill lights I installed.

I connected the red wire from them (12v switched wire) to the this red wire in the passenger headlight. I’m not sure of the pin # though.

I’m not referring to my headlights staying on. I am referring to the vent lights and grill lights staying on. The headlights work as they always have

I guess I'm reading something incorrectly in your posts. You said the lights you installed are staying on but nothing else does. My thought is that your headlights should stay on too.

Correct. Everything my works as expected. But, when I turn my truck off, get out, and lock it, all exterior lights flash like they’re suppose to since I used the key fob to lock it.

Then, immediately afterwards, ONLY the vent lights and grill lights that I installed both turn on for 10-15 seconds and then turn off.

I mean, in all honesty, it’s kind of a cool “issue” to be having…but the nerd in me wants to understand why it’s happening.

I guess if you're expecting the headlights to stay on along with the other lights, I'd still lean towards something amiss with your install. That's why I suggest to disconnect what you did to see if the headlights come on when you exit.

I’m not expecting the headlights to stay on. I’m wondering why the lights I installed are staying on, but nothing else is. Considering the vent lights and grill lights stay on for a short period one would assume the headlights would be as well since the lights I installed are powered by the headlights, but they don’t. It’s just pretty odd behavior.

Right. And i think the headlights should be on as well. I guess my mind goes back to my networking days. If you make a change and something that was working isn't anymore, then back out the changes to see if that's what is causing the problem.

Funny you say that; I’m a network engineer of sorts. Lol.
Anywho; everything does in fact work the way it always has. Meaning, before installing the vent lights, the headlights never came back on. It’s almost like installing the vent lights exposed a secret feature of some sorts.

I know a couple other people who have these installed in the same manner so I am going to reach out to them and see if they have the same thing going on.

as I mentioned, it’s not a bad thing. I’m just wondering why it is happening.

OK. That's where I was a little confused, the headlights weren't on before and I assumed they were. Let us know if you find the answers you need. Good luck

I'm going to agree with others.
First, you say other lights don't work, and then you say everything else works fine.
    That stated;

THE SHORT VERSION: RED WIRE IS ENERGIZED AND YOUR VENT LIGHTS ARE GROUNDING THE CIRCUIT TO MAKE THEM STAY ON, THEN THEY TIME OUT.
    Why do they stay on?
Because they have power and ground..

The trucks combination of ECUs, that work together, don't like change.
Maybe someone else that did this mod can tell you how they did it and if they had the same experience.
I don't know enough about the Gen 3 'premium' headlights to understand exactly how they work.

    THE LONG VERSION:
Follow the red wire from the first page to the third.
It's the red wire from the Semiconductor Power Integration ECU to your right-hand/passenger headlight ECU.
Not sure what exactly it triggers, but it sends power to your RH headlight ECU.
The beige wire from the Semiconductor Power Integration ECU is the same feed for you driver's/left headlight.
Since your vent lights have their own ground, whenever they are powered, they come on.
Whatever ECU signal then times out when you shut the truck down.

    upload_2025-5-17_17-43-1.pngupload_2025-5-17_17-43-17.pngupload_2025-5-17_17-43-36.png

There are other factors that tell the headlight ECUs if the low or high beams should be on, which is controlled by the main body ECU.
Follow the beige and white wires from the RH headlight ECU to the main body ECU.
Those wires are violet and white for the LH headlight ECU.
CANH and CANL, high and low beams.

    upload_2025-5-17_17-53-30.pngupload_2025-5-17_17-53-46.pngupload_2025-5-17_17-54-2.png

    Good luck...

Similar to what others have said, you have tapped into the power supply for your vehicles various ECU's, which remain on for several minutes after the vehicle is shut down. Similar to if you used a OBD2 power adapter.. I suspect your additional vent lights turn on when you start the vehicle (not linked to any other lights turning on or off)? I would tap into an ignition fuse probably unless you're okay with its behavior.
