How would it alert you even if such an option existed if the phone is still in the truck?

So I know that such a system exists with weight being picked up by the ODS sensors such as kid in the back seat thing, but I also know that the phones interfere with the ODS sensors when in operation. However, the phone does not weigh enough to trigger the system to alert you as it would a kid. I know that such technology does not exist in the Subaru world, and I'd be willing to bet that it doesn't exist in the Toyota world either.

I think there is some setting for backseat items/children reminder.
You can set it up and just remember when it beeps to check for your phone.
Look at the manual, a lot of good info there ;):monocle:

Thank You - That sounds like a possible workaround. For my situation I will be 84 next month and have leg braces on both legs. I use two canes to help me walk. I put those in the back seat when I enter the truck and take them out for use when I exit the truck. So I open the back door every time I leave the truck except when I get home. So I will give it a try. Thank you very Much for your reply.

I'm not 84 yet, but i used to always forget either my phone or my wallet. Not related advise but it helped me and my wife. Usually leaving home i have three items, my keys, my wallet and my phone. So, i just remember, before i leave house, or leave car to go from car home or whatever, i need to count to three -> one - wallet, two - keys, three- phone. Works like magic LOL.... sorry for pushing my opinion on you but maybe it will help.

That definitely works as long as you don’t drive any distance. Takes a lot of the charge if not in cradle.
I am doing that for short trips in town.

it must be because I'm naïve, but driving an older gen I didn't realize that your phone had to always be connected to the vehicle which would cause drain on your battery. Forgive me if I came off as smug earlier.

Not at all. Without my phone in truck no navigation I assume there is another way to do but not sure. I do not know what function are not available if you do not have a phone.

Ok so with Apple there is an app called short cuts. I just created one to see if it works. When CarPlay disconnects my phone speaks “don’t forget your phone”.

You dont need your phone for navigation. Tundra has it's own GPS/ navigation app. My friend is a stubborn SOB old school, he has a brick cell phone. He uses his car navigation system. Look at the manual, it is your best friend.

Buy a cheap smart watch connect to your phone when you disconnect from the phone the watch will buzz. It isn't perfect but it will let you know.

    This is the way.

Alternative, but I'd rather use a smartwatch @ 85yr, which will provide the OP with many other benefits:

Under short cuts you will need to look for CarPlay. It gives you the option for when it connects or disconnects. Once you find that set it to disconnect. Then you have the action that it will do and select speak. Type in what you want it to say and that’s about it

I couldn't find Carplay, does it need to be connected to find it?
My truck is sitting on the driveway on a charger since I can't drive for 3 weeks..

I don't even need this, I just want to set it up to annoy my wife..

But then he would probably leave this in the truck too.
That is way too big to put on a key ring...:eek2:

Funny enough, I use an Android phone and use Tasker plugin which detects when my phone connects/disconnects from my truck's bluetooth. It then plays a painfully annoying tone at a random frequency (so that my brain doesnt become acclimated to it) upon disconnect and connect. Works well.

Did a search and found this

To create a shortcut for CarPlay using Apple's Shortcuts app, you'll need to set up a Personal Automation that triggers a specific action when your phone connects to CarPlay. You can then use Siri to run this shortcut, or add it to your home screen widget for quick access.
    Here's a step-by-step guide:
    1. Open the Shortcuts app and create a new automation:
Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone, Tap the "Automation" tab at the bottom, and Tap "Create Personal Automation".
    2. Select CarPlay as the trigger:
    • Scroll down and select "CarPlay".
    • Choose "Connects" (or "Disconnects" depending on the action you want to trigger).
    • Tap "Next".
    3. Add the action you want to perform:
    • Tap "Add Action".
    • Search for the action you want to perform (e.g., "Open App," "Play/Pause," etc.).
    • Select the desired action.
    • Customize the action's settings if needed (e.g., specify the app to open).
    4. Configure the automation:
Tap "Next", Disable "Ask Before Running" and select "Don't Ask", and Tap "Done".
Example: Pausing media when connecting to CarPlay:
    • Follow steps 1-3 above to create a Personal Automation for when CarPlay connects.
    • In the "Add Action" step, search for "Play/Pause".
    • Tap "Play/Pause" again and select "Pause".
    • Complete the automation setup as described above.
Example: Opening a specific app when connecting to CarPlay:
    • Follow steps 1-3 above to create a Personal Automation for when CarPlay connects.
    • In the "Add Action" step, search for "Open App".
    • Choose the app you want to open.
    • Complete the automation setup as described above.
Using Siri or Adding to Home Screen Widget:
    • You can use Siri to run the shortcut by saying, "Hey Siri, run [shortcut name]".
    • You can also add the shortcut to your home screen widget for quick access.
Note: You may need to update the Shortcuts app to the latest version to access all the features described above.

There is a post on here by a member named Burta. It was using this method to autolock your truck once you get out. It worked but unfortunately you would get logged out of the app
