I know several of you have made the trip. I am saving for next October. A family of four on a 7 day adventure. I need some incite on how much money. I was planning on $6,500 with some cushion. What are the places to see and avoid. I just need some input so i can plan the best trip possible.

Depends on where you stay. On the Disney property or offsite like Kisssimmee? If you stay at property hotels, buy the meal plan. Goes a long way for food, snacks and drinks. I stayed on the property so really there are no places to avoid. Just look for their theme hotels and pick the one you like. Book way in advance since they sell out quick.

Get the wristbands. They are great and cover charge everything to your account (if you buy anything) and you also have them to reserve times on the rides.

Stay on property. Port Orleans Riverside is a great mid-range value for accommodations: better transportation around the park and not the crazy lines that you get with the "value" on property hotels.

We like staying on Disney property because it makes the travel to the park easier. Once you book everything make sure you do the park fastpasses and restaurant reservations as soon as they let you. We usually stay at the boardwalk hotel and enjoy that area. I would recommend the Le Cellier restaurant in Epcot for dinner.

Check the weather report and bring a generator, and other bug out gear. Or go to Disneyland. Could save you a lot of grief.

My wife used to work at Disneyland. We did a World trip a few years ago and she planned the whole thing. We went in April which was kind of off season. Still crowded but bearable. Rainy. Like crazy rainy. We got caught in a couple of storms that had sections of the park flooding. Get the bracelet thingie and the speed pass for the lines. The bracelet lets you not carry your hotel key or credit card plus it keeps your speed pass reservations. Mucho helpful. I can get some info from her if you'd like.

I was just there a few months ago. We stayed at the Art of Animation resort in the Finding Nemo suites. The kids loved it. One thing we did do to make things easier was we had a rental car (drove up from South florida) and drove to the parks we were planning on staying at till around closing time. Then we didn't have to deal with the massive crowds waiting for the busses all at once. Had to pay for parking, but in my opinion it was worth it, especially when I also had a stroller to deal with.

Also, PLAN AHEAD! Stuff books quick. There was few dinner reservations left at the popular restaurants still over a month out. Fast passes are awesome too. Download the Disney World app. It makes things super easy. Maps with GPS, food, restroom, meet and greet locations and line wait times. Also all your reservations with your hotel, fast passes, meals are all on there. Once you use up your 3 fast passes for the day, you can book more for that day through the app.

October is a great time to go. Not as humid. Take something for the Disney characters to sign like an autograph book or something.

October would probably be great we went last year in June:mad: I will never ever go to Florida in June ever again. I had sweat dripping from places I didn't even know you could sweat from. When we went we stayed about 15 minutes away and it was great we did 3 days Disney and 3 days Disney water parks it was a good balance. Good luck and have fun did I mention don't go in June. Lol:goingcrazy:

I was in a outdoor wedding at Disney World during the last week of June, years ago. We had to wear the full tux suit too. I was miserable. By the time it was over, I was completely soaked in sweat. I don't think they planned the wedding attire very well for a outdoor summer wedding in florida.

Hmm... hope this relates to Disney world as we went to Disney Land.
    1. Check Costco Travel they have awesome deals... get executive membership first.might as well get some money back after that big purchase.
    2. Stay on Property! The last thing you will probably want to do is take a shuttle to a rental then drive to your hotel. We stayed at the Grand California(think that’s what it was called).
    3. Plan out all the things you want to see or do/ride.... this may be the only time you will want be there.
    4. Plan on food being the most expensive part of the trip. Seriously! Unreal what they will charge to eat a breakfast buffet with Mickey, Goofey and Doc McStuffins.
    5. Also if you have a rental Valet that thing. But it’s going to cost you like 25 bucks a day.
    6. Did you know China has a Disney Park? Went there on Libo once. Probably costs the same plus you can say you went to China.

We have gone probably a dozen times. Take your time. Don’t feel like you have to be there at opening or rush to everything.
I absolutely recommend staying on property. The moderate resorts are pretty nice. Port Orleans is the best of those in my opinion. They have a boat that takes you to the Downtown Disney Area, which is pretty cool.
There are a lot of benefits to staying on property:

Free parking at the parks. That saves you I think $25.00 a day based on the last time I was there.

Security: No one can get on the hotel property without being a guest, or having a reservation at one of their restaurants. This keeps your family and vehicle safe. You’re not walking through a parking lot with your family late at night that just anyone can be wandering around.

Transportation to the parks. The moderates and values have buses. They take a while, but it saves you having to get everyone there, and offloaded, and walking through a huge parking lot after you’ve been in the park all day. Even after you park, it’s usually a walk to the loading area for the trams, which adds another wait to get there. It tends to take another half hour just to get to the gate. Then you reverse the whole process at the end of the day. It goes like this: Wait in line to park. Walk to tram loading area, wait for a tram, fight people rushing to get on. Ride the tram to the front. If you’re at the Magic Kingdom, you then have to wait on a monorail to take you the rest of the way. That’s when you get in line to just get in. (Though more expensive, the big three deluxe resorts have a monorail straight from the hotel to Magic Kingdom, or the Epcot monorail. Rooms are larger also.) You have to do it all again when you leave.
One cool thing is that it makes it easy if we split up. I don’t know how old your kids are, but it allowed our teenagers to go to the park without us if we wanted to chill for a while. When they were younger, I could take the older ones while my wife stayed behind and let the little one rest.
A lot of times you can find deluxe resorts on special for about the same as moderates, if they aren’t booking enough rooms for them.
The Disney employees will make huge efforts to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. They will make reservations for you, and help with a lot of things. One thing they do better than anyone is look after their guests.

The big one: Extra Magic Hours. If you stay on their property, you get time in the parks that aren’t available to those who don’t. We build our schedule around that. For instance, a couple nights a week, resort guests can stay in Magic Kingdom until 2:00 in the morning. Everyone else has to leave at I think 11:00. That seems really late, but a lot of times we don’t even go in until 5 or so in the evening. You’re beating the heat, a lot of the crowd, and you can do other things during the day. The lines for rides are nearly non existent. We’d stay late, sleep until noon, grab some lunch, go to the pool, whatever, instead of standing in line all day. It makes for a much more relaxing time.

You already said you were planning seven days, which is what we do. The first time, we only had four days, and we stayed off property. It was a hell of a lot of work.

Sorry for the long post. This is just something I have a lot of experience with, so I enjoy passing on what we’ve learned. If you have any questions at all, please give me a shout. We’ve done pretty much everything you can do there.

    Everything. Literally.
Going to Disney World? Here’s what you need to do, from my experience last summer.

Cash out your checking and savings, take out a second mortgage, liquidate whatever other assets you have, and then be prepared to spend all of it on 15 dollar hamburgers and gagantic lollipops.

And don’t let your kids go near the water.

Check out some disney forums and websites. Many people don't know this but there is actually a point system (Disney Vacation Club) that can make things a hell of a lot cheaper once you figure out how it all works. Basically you purchase the points from Disney Vacation Club members cheaper than the hotel costs and use the points to pay for the room instead. We have done this the last 3 trips and each time we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge for the price we would have paid to stay at a hotel way away from the parks.

Here is a post I found explaining in more detail how it all works:

    "How does it work?

DVC owners pay for a certain number of points each year. Each night at a resort costs "x" points (weekends cost more points, certain times of year cost more than others). I'll just throw out some totally fake numbers to help you see it. Let's say in their purchase contract that a DVC owner buys 200 points a year. When they want to stay at at DVC property, such as Animal Kingdom Villas (a.k.a. Kidani Village), they go to a Disney chart that says how much each room type costs for each day. So let's say a studio room costs 20 points per night (again, I'm just making this up), and they want to stay for 4 nights, they'll need to spend 80 of their DVC points to get that room.

Owners are permitted to rent out their points rather than use them themselves. You get in contact with a DVC owner and the two parties agree to a price ... you agree how much you will pay them for each point. When all is said and done, you will be paying less money to rent the points than you would if you booked the room through Disney."

Rent dvc points and stay in a nice Disney property.

Get the bands and learn fast pass. I carry a backpack with waters and snacks to avoid the overpriced snacks there.

Mickey food is generally terrible but there are a few good places. Pizza in Italy Epcot is great.

If your going in October, go to Mickeys not so scary Halloween party, it’s a good way to see magic kingdom without all the lines, you can go from 4pm to 12am so you still get the full day, go to Epcot the day before and do the full day there, watch the show at night, do the ratatouille food and wine adventure with the kids and it’s a great way to get around to all of the country’s. Plus booze

Yep epcot is the place to eat. Save your money at the other parks all the food is generic crap. Download the app to specify what you want to use your fast passes on as well. The magic bands are awesome, they do literally everything (room key, fast pass, credit card, etc)

Ok local chiming in.... I agree with comments above on staying on property but don't forget universal studios. Yes October is a great time to go for weather. Yes you have to watch the hurricanes but that's toward the end of the season. Stay off I drive if you can just my thought. Not sure the age of the kids but if you have question about specific places I might be able to help.

I think 6500.00 is a good number, bring a good CC as well.

We had Times shares, went over Memorial weekend, my FIL got us 4 day passes for 100.00 per family, Disney world was honoring Vets and all we had to pay for was our flights from CO to FL. Pretty good deal for us. Look into some of the things Disney does for veterans. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Disney asked my FIL to head up the parade the afternoon (Vietnam vet and lifelong career) He was proud to do it, and it was a wonderful day.

DO THE AVATAR RIDE!!! Ride that banshee!!
But either go STRAIGHT first thing in the morning and deal with that wait, or go late in the evening when others have died away.
Also get the Disney phone app and book your fast passes!!
