I am new here. Considering a left over 2024 Capstone. Any issues with this year/model? I test drove it and was overall very pleased. The passenger door rattled with the volume turned up so that would have to be remedied before delivery as it would be a deal breaker. I test drove the 2025 Platinum I Force too but the Capstone was quieter and more powerful.

Capstone is a beautiful trim. How is the price on it? I would go for it, no reason to wait for a '25 in my opinion.

What month/year was it built? Many suspect engine debris issue was not fully resolved as late as Feb 2024. Some believe not until fall 2024.
Unfortunately, if a 2024 engine grenades, no crate engine for you.

Issues with the Tundra have been discussed ad nauseam on this site and lack of responses are likely due to exhaustion with the topic.

My recommendation would be to save the headache and BS, and ask an AI search engine. I would ask the AI to search internet forums, social media and online journalistic reports for a summary of the issues with the latest generation of Tundra and specifically how they affect the 2024 capstone and iforce max engine.

Historically, many purchase Tundras for their reliability, and resale vs the half ton competition. I would ask it to also summarize reliability, resale, and owner satisfaction compared to the previous generation Tundras and newer competitive offerings.

Tint and wheels. Decked box in the bed. S and B Cold Air filters under the hood. Shiftpower throttle response controller.
That's the ticket!! Ask AI. This world is getting dumber and dumber.

It wouldn't matter on the build date anyway because all capstones are I-Force Max hybrids and they are not included in the recall anyway so none would get a crate engine if they blow a bearing.

You can do better than that.

    I just picked up a 25 1794 for ~14% off MSRP.

Push for 11.5k or more off MSRP. Walk away otherwise

Keep in mind that I'm in CA, where they aren't as flexible with the pricing.

If your anywhere east they are even cheaper.

Yeah, I am in the Northeast and dealers are not that flexible. I made offers and they are still in covid and good reputation mode. Makes it difficult so i am also looking at GM, Ram and Ford. I wish there was a clear winner. I would get a Tundra if they were more reasonable on price. On a 2025 Platinum they are at 7% will factory rebate.

AI is "retarded"? If you know how to properly prompt AI it can be quite useful. Here is a summary the AI gave, took less than 10s, and would avoid reading critiques here that are mostly inflammatory:

    • Engine Reliability Issues: The i-Force Max hybrid engine faces potential bearing failures due to manufacturing debris, linked to a 2022–2023 recall, with some 2024 concerns persisting.
    • Transmission Problems: Owners report shuddering and occasional transmission failures, requiring replacements in some cases.
    • Poor Build Quality: Misaligned doors, interior rattles, and crooked badging undermine the Capstone’s $78,000–$80,695 luxury positioning.
    • Harsh Ride Quality: The 22-inch wheels and air suspension result in a stiff, jolty ride, less refined than competitors like the Ram 1500.
    • Inefficient Hybrid: The i-Force Max delivers disappointing fuel economy (19 mpg real-world vs. 24 mpg EPA highway), reducing its appeal.
    • Lower Reliability: Consumer Reports predicts below-average reliability, with four NHTSA recalls, a sharp decline from the previous generation’s near-flawless record.
    • Weakening Resale Value: Reliability concerns and recalls depress resale compared to older V8 Tundras, which retain up to 70% of value after five years.
    • Mixed Owner Satisfaction: Owners praise power and tech (e.g., 14-inch touchscreen) but lament reliability, build quality, and lack of luxury refinement.
    • Competitive Lag: Trails Ram 1500, Ford F-150, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in reliability, resale, and satisfaction due to superior competitor refinement and capability.
    • Recommendation: Buyers may prefer a used 2007–2021 Tundra or competitors like the Ram 1500 for better reliability and value until Toyota resolves these issues.

And ALL of that comes with an asterisk next to it.

The Capstone is out for me. They would not budge. I am now looking at either a Limited Hybrid or for $5k more, a regular 1794.

I would argue the reliability of the tundra is at least on par with the big three. Especially in light of all the recent recalls and known issues. The AI response infers the reliability of the tundra is lower, which doesn't always to be the case. At least not yet.

I'm "in the industry" so do think AI has a place as a tool but currently needs a good bit of "expert supervision". Based on your results you must have asked something along the lines of: "What are the issues with the 2024 Toyota Tundra Capstone". Which is answered with some bias based on the "issues" part but also super weirdly mentions Dodge, Ford, Chevy as having higher reliability, resale, etc.

AI's do often hallucinate but do it confidently so you don't always recognize it.

Anyway no real point have a good one.

As stated in my post, no 2024MY will get a crate engine. Hybrid engine is irrelevant here.
The inquiry of the build date was to determine if it was an early 2023 build where some might be reluctant to buy not knowing if Toyota really resolve the debris issue then.
OP indicated a June build, so that is good.

Seems like it was off on the "Inefficient Hybrid" comment too. Isn't the Hybrid there for more power?

There is a dealer outside Pittsburgh that had two 2024 Capstones brand new for around $68,000 a couple weeks ago. Not sure it they sold them, I was close to buying one of them.
