Thinking of 6112s but is there a bit better?

I bought a new project , ‘14 SR5 CM with 150k , old owner installed RC 2” coilovers . I feel every crack in the pavement. I would like to get something better than the RC (they have 40k on them according to service records) Is the 6112s the go to? Is it going to ride as rough as the RC ? Is there something better than the 6112s or are they what I need? Pic of front and rear

“Comfort” is subjective. If a soft plush ride is what you seek, factory black shocks are soft. 6112s are not typically described this way. Most will call them firmer than factory, but well controlled. They will be a major improvement over any crap RC sells.

Eibach or Fox if you're looking for a smoother ride on the skreeeeets.

Bilsteins "smoothness" or performance requires a little speed.

I guess I like firm ( think no body roll) but don’t want to feel every pavement crack

Yeah but what model Eibach or Fox are better than the 6112s? And frankly other than a few construction sites , and daily street driving ,my truck tows boats on the weekends and the biggest is a 22’ bay

Yep, I have a complete RC suspension and to me it rides GREAT!!! Very smooth and doesn't wear me out over long road trips. I believe it's about 4-6" lift.

As mentioned before, you're asking for subjective differences vs objective ones. Hit up @memario1214 and he will get you sorted out with what will work best for you and your use case and budget.

Eibachs give a nicer ride than 6112 and are a quality product. If you are ruling them out by your own logic the 6112 aren't nice enough.

Guess you need to go with the Bilstein 8112 or Kings.

Having run both Eibachs and 6112’s - the Eibachs are softer but don’t handle as well. The 6112’s do everything well, especially handling and towing, but can be a little firm. Fox 2.0’s had a boaty/floaty feeling I didn’t enjoy, but were otherwise comfy (if not nauseating on regular seams in the road). They didn’t handle towing over 4 or 5k lbs very well.

Look at Falcon shocks if you tow; the rears are 3 stage adjustable and work great for controlling the load. Ride comfort is somewhere between Eibach and 6112’s, with better handling than Eibachs and more comfort than 6112’s. A bit hard to describe, but they ride nice and aren’t much more than 6112/5160’s.

That’s all my subjective opinion. My truck is heavy and tows often. Also, it is my opinion that the rear spring setup makes as much difference in ride quality as new shocks. If they are worn and sagging, they will bounce off the overload and ride like garbage. I ended up building up the leaf pack, removing the overload, and running airbags instead of an overload.

There's a lot of good info in here so far. I can confirm that @blenton is a glutton for punishment, and has tried many a suspension to dial in his desired profile.

@SC SR5 - I can absolutely help get you a suspension upgrade that will be a dramatic performance improvement over what you have. The million dollar question I have for you is this. Are you willing to spend ~$4-5k to get a very high performance suspension system, or is sub $2k more your speed? There's good options at both levels, and perks to be had at the upper tiers. Just gotta know where you're at, and I can make some recommendations.

Does your rear end have blocks or anything back there, or is that at stock height?

I had a bad experience with Falcon; Piston went right through the top hat of assembly, and for that I cant recommend them. I know there are stinkers in everything thats ever produced and they did ride as @blenton described before they broke. I went back to Fox 2.0s although this time I have them set at 1" vs 2" (on my old 2014 DC); I am running 5100s in the rear, which are a little stiffer than the Fox rears but I do tow/haul some and I like the way the truck performs now.

Correct. Stock rear so you're all good there.
