I have a 2010 tundra 2 owners including myself. The previous owner had one of the rear cats removed just one on the passengers side. I have no codes but it is really loud especially from the side missing a cat. Is this ok for the engine to have 2 cats on the driver side and only one on the passenger side or should I also remove the rear cat from the other side.

It doesn’t hurt anything to have it like that. However, it’s odd that it’s loud from just that one side. My question would be why? Do you have an aftermarket exhaust system? Or is there a huge leak?

It's not uncommon for folks to pull both rear cats altogether and still not see a code

Nothing yet except for some LED interior & exterior bulbs.
If there are no O2 sensors downstream of the second set of cats it won't throw a code. Comparing the upstream and downstrean O2 signals is how the ECU determines if there is a cat efficiency issue.

It not aftermarket. I just sounds louder on that one side while driving. Maybe because I removed a cat. Honestly if there’s no harm being done to the engine having one cat on one and two on the other I can deal with the noise.

So this is dual exhaust with no crossover pipe? The idea of having one bank of my V8 with that much more restriction in flow than the other would bother me, but that’s probably just me.

I have the 4.0l v6 and I have dual exhaust. Not sure what you mean by crossover pipe. Is that just the pipe that joins the two sides into the muffler?

By crossover I mean anything that allows flow from one bank of the exhaust to the other on a V style engine. Could be an X pipe, H pipe, or sometimes even a dual in dual out muffler that has an internal crossover that causes the exhaust flow from both cylinder banks to mix together.

It’s just a dual in muffler that mixes and comes out the tailpipe
