So i had changed out my differential and got my truck running but it wont move in drive or 2 ,i can put it in low and it starts rolling once i get moving i can shift to 2nd and drive and it runs fine until i come to a complete stop then i need to put it in low again and start rolling then i can shift into drive and it rolls fine anyone know what may be causing this ,and its not my shift solenoids cause i replaced the whole valvebody in the transmission, any suggestions

Are you sure the trans fluid level is correct?

When exactly did this start, after which maintenance?

    Which engine, v6 or v8?

Which transmission? There are like 6 different valve body types/variations for the 4spd auto A340 in your year Tundra and I’m wondering if you swapped the wrong valve body in, hence why you’re not able to shift into certain gears? @The Black Mamba has posted more info in his transmission dump thread here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/a340e-f-info-dump.151751/

Reading that thread may help you determine if you did install the wrong valve body

Will it accelerate from a stop in Drive? I know my ford ranger starts in 2nd when the lever is on ‘2’, but the tundra uses 1st & 2nd with the lever on ‘2’.

I'm with @shifty` on this. Low fluid, or incorrect valve body / install. We're missing the timeline to make it make sense though. Problems before you swapped valve bodies? Obviously, or you wouldn't have messed with it. Same problem you still have? Or different new problem after? Immediately after? Or you swapped, it worked fine, now it's messing up? Step 1 is checking that fluid level though.

It only accelerates in low ,if i have it in 2 or drive it has engine climbing in rpms but no movement ,it has an A340F transmission which i had switched valve body from exact model transmission v8 4sp automatic, it does the exact same with original valve body as with new valvebody thats why im reaching out ive gone through factory service manuals and think i may be missing something it acts like its a manual transmission when in drive or 2nd with clutch pedal pushed in i had local jiffy lube guys top off tranny but it may be low still ill see how low it may still be later today

Free to pop the hood once the trucks transmission has warmed up and pull the dipstick to check the trans fluid level.

How many balls are in a a340? The solenoids arent ‘part’ of the valvebody.

if you park it from first gear, then restart it, and go to drive does it reset in first? If its in the trans and time is money, then you’re gonna be looking for single tranny’s in your area. But maybe the first gear ?shuttle valve? Is sticky?

sorry, i’ve got a dozen irons in the fire, and just dont have the bandwidth to dig into it right now, but maybe tues or wed when its triple digits.
