Red is the only one of those that's nice.

Of course, if and when I replace my truck, my only criteria will be that the new one not be white and I'll probably have to give up on that to get the other features I want. This is the land of white trucks.

Very exciting routine maintenance on the not a 3rd Gen Tundra last week.

    IMG_0778.jpg

2nd oil change. First one at 1200 miles, this one at 4920 or so.

Toyota can recommend 10K OCI’s all they like, I’m not interested in sub par maintenance. For a whopping $70/year extra I can do 2 oil changes instead of one (average about 10K miles per year).

Installed the GM upfitter kit and then installed my DD SS6 fogs that I kept from the Tundra.

I got the upfitter kit in November and finally got around to installing it. I needed a ladder to reach the firewall to run the wires. I had to lay on the engine. I had the fogs for over a year. They are hard to miss for the idiots are pulling out in front of you!

Almost look factory with that placement. Very nice.

Is the upfitter kit just switches inside?

GM Made a kit that includes a heavy wire that connects to one of the 2 batteries. It comes with a 60 amp and 200 amp fuse that sits on the battery. Then you get a fuse block with relays and then 5 push buttons that go in the kick panel. It comes with all the bits and pieces to install it. It is pretty well built but can be a pain to install.

If you buy a HD GM you usually will find this kit in sitting in a bag on the back seat. GM doesn't want to install the kit for some reason. It is a bit of a chore to put in but if you want a control to run a winch or snow plow or something like that, this kit will work well to power it.

You get 4 connections under the dash to connect things to and you get one more connection at the 3rd brake light to connect to. Like bed lights or big spots for camping!

Our Truck was used and the salesman rounded up all the pieces for the kit. The row of 5 push buttons was already in the kick panel so that made the install easier.

Got the Blackvue Dash Cam installed and used another one of those upfitter buttons. (I kept this when I traded the Tundra).

The install was pretty easy. The hard part was finding the wire and plug since I left the original plug in the Tundra. Doh!

Only 3 AUX buttons left! :)

Got the Rock Tamers setup and ready for our trip out to the boonies (Saskatchewan) in a week or so. They have so many gravel highways!

I wanted to use at least one of the Rock Tamers exhaust ports (made for smaller dual exhaust pipes) for the big fat exhaust pipe. They offer a heat shield as well but I figured I would use the port and make my own heat shield out of some left over stainless sheet.

Turned out okay but these things are a chore to install.

    IMG_3846 copy.jpg
The position of the hole lines up pretty good but looks low in the pics but when the trailer is connected, the whole assembly levels out. The idea is that the exhaust would just deflect off the heat shield but it does come out the hole too.

Forgot to mention: Got my truck back from the rust. Taken care of under warranty, except for two spots that they said they would not cover which is not really rust, according to the body shop.

So I am happy about that.

What sort of rust were you dealing with? Why did they leave two spots? Sounds like progress.

Thank you, yes, progress was made and I am so happy to have a fixed truck :). I have some pics somewhere on here showing the rust on the body, and if I can find it, I will link to it.

The two spots that I have knowledge of is not considered "rust" by even the body shop they used. The first one is to bare metal and all I need is to put a sealer and then paint match it. The other is right above the window on the edge of the body but the body shop said that a clay bar should take that out as well.

However the major rust spots and all 6 of the others were all done and it looks fantastic!

I will try to grab some finished pics and post those. Life has me going crazy right now, LOL.

I have a 2.5 gen but i like this thread cause i can see what everyone else is getting for future vehicles. Who all has either a chevy/ford HD gasser? Are they worth it compared to the diesel with the emission nonsense?

Right now these are your options:

Ford 6.8/7.3 with the 10 speed.

GM 6.6L gas. Install new or updated valve body.

Ram has MDS, so it wouldn't even be a consideration.
