I put a new battery in it back in Jan when I first started messing with it after delivery from IL. Haven't had any issues starting it from Jan-Apr. The last time I drove it, I forgot to turn the headlights off (got used to automatic headlights in the CR-V) and killed the battery. Jumpstarted it last week and let it run for half an hour to let the battery charge up. Went to move it Tue and the battery was dead again. Made sure all of the lights were off and jumped/moved it to the driveway for the axle repair and charged the battery backup again. The only thing that I had done electrically was add a Bluetooth kit from Crutchfield that plugs into the back of the radio into the cd changer port in April. I don't see the light on it when the key is off and the Bluetooth doesn't stay connected after it shuts off. Has anyonehad any issues with this that have used the unit?

I checked the unit out and it does seem to be drawing a little bit of power as I plugged my phone into the USB port on it and the charging icon appeared on the phone. But it was so slow it wouldn't give me an estimated time until fully charged.

Fully discharging your battery even once can be enough to send it over the edge. Stupid question: Have you driven to the local auto parts store to have it tested, just to rule out the battery isn't your culprit?

Just a reminder: You've had rodent issues. Even corrosion on wires can cause drainage issues that are near-invisible/impossible to know are there. We had a dude on here with a near-new battery within the last 48 hours that had a failed battery "dud" also. Both happen.

Rule out that stuff first. Also, do you have a voltmeter or multimeter so you can test how much draw is actually happening while the truck is completely off? If you need a video showing you how and educating you on batteries I can whip one out of my ass.

If you killed the battery once it usually never will be the same afterwards.

    Beat me to it.

It was doing just fine before I added the Bluetooth adapter sitting without starting for several weeks. I will be monitoring the battery level and will look up how to check for current draw.

Your headlights should turn off automatically. Every Toyota I've owned since 1988 has had auto-off headlights.

They do? I did not know that. I guess it was from the current draw of the Bluetooth adapter over that time then. I took a reading of the battery last night on its current voltage (we had rain moving through last night) and I have the adapter attached to the radio. I'll check the battery again tonight when I get home and see how much it dropped. I'll due the current draw test this weekend hopefully. It is supposed to rain more but our closing on our house got delayed to next week.

11.86 volts It's been reading that ±.02 the last 3 days with the adapter unplugged.

That's way low. It should be a minimum of 12.6 when fully charged with no load. Do you have a battery charger? If so, put the charger on and let it go overnight.

I used to have a small one for keeping the motorcycle battery topped off. Not sure I still have it. I'll check the tool box tonight and see if it is in there. Haven't had the bike for 10 years now.

Sounds to me like your battery has taken a shit and this has nothing to do with the adapter you installed.

It is possible that there is an issue with the battery. I need to drive it and see how well the temporary leak in the axle holds up this weekend. I will take it by and have the battery tested and see what they say. I'll check the battery tonight when I get home and see what the level is at compared to the reading last night.

In particular when driver door is open with IGN off, according to owners manual.
Of course if aftermarket is installed, I suppose all bets are off !

Everything is stock, so, I will test it out.
Edit: just tried out the headlights and they shut off like it describes. So it wasn't leaving the headlights on. But that passage also says not to leave the switch on for over a week. So, maybe has a little to do with it.

I checked the battery again and it still read the same voltage from last night. So that's good. I just drove it into town and so far, no leaking from the axle. So that's even better news.
