Disconnected the battery for 24 hours while I replaced the steering wheel. Not sure if the disconnected battery was a factor here. Now I'm receiving several malfunction messages. See pictures. Techstream shows C1433. I used Techstream to reset the memory, run test mode and cleared C1433. The malfunction messages and C1433 immediately came back while driving. Techstream > steering angle sensor > stays at 0 degrees when I turn the wheel. See picture. Techstream > Zero Point of Steering Angle stays at a constant -3072 degrees. Is there anything I should check before I replace the Steering Angle Sensor? I’m thinking the clock spring should be okay as the horn and all the steering wheel controls work. Any assistance or guidance greatly appreciated.

Might have to do a zero point calculation on the yaw sensor.

My bad. You said steering angle sensor NOT the yaw sensor.

Sounds like you need a recal. I doubt the sensor is bad.

I followed an older set of calibration instructions. In essence, use Techstream to reset the memory, run test mode and then drive for 10 seconds at 25MPG. Interested in knowing if there's a newer set of instructions for a 2020 Tundra.

Circling back on this. I ordered an aftermarket Steering Angle Sensor from E-bay and couldn't calibrate it. Then I ordered a used OEM Steering Angle Sensor and was able to calibrate it. Buyer beware.

What would be the most affordable scan tool to purchase in order to read/clear steering angle sensor codes for a 2020 Tundra?

Autozone, O'Reilly's, Advance Auto, Etc will typically do it for free. If the intent is to purchase a scan tool, then someone else will need to chime in.

They couldn’t read the codes. I bought a scanner that “was better than the ones they use” per the O’Reilly’s employee. It was the Innova 5210, it didn’t support the 2020 Tundra. Neither did the FOXWELL NT510. Bought and returned. I have a spiral cable and angle sensor coming. I’ll install it and have a shop do the recalibration (if needed).

I talked to a buddy of mine tonight that runs a Discount Tire store. He's gonna bring home one of their scanners they use...

So I have a Xtool D7 and was able to clear all of the codes. Then after 5 minutes the Trailer Brake sensor, the Pre Collision sensor, and the traction control light all come on. I don't believe these have anything to do with the steering angle sensor so I think all of those codes have been remedied. Any idea as to why the remaining codes would come back after 5 minutes?

I did the same thing. Replaced with heated steering wheel. Steering angle sensor went bad. [internal circuit] Ordered SAS from eBay and can’t calibrate it with techstream. Says SAS initialization incomplete. Took to Toyota and they think I have a bad clockspring and wasted 4 hours of my time plus $200. I think I just need a legit steering angle sensor. About to give up on heated steering wheel and keep stock. Code c1439 c1445

Forgot that I also had 7.5amp fuse blow in lower left fuse panel. OBD fuse. I tried paper clip method before realizing it won’t work on 20 or 21 models. That may have blew the fuse. Lights are off every time I crank mine until I go over 30mph then vsc/traction light comes on

I was able to solve all my issues by recalibrating the front sensor behind the Toyota emblem. Took all of 5 minutes. You located anywhere in So Cal?

Here is the tech stream code list. The Toyota dealership could not get it to calibrate. This is with the cheap eBay SAS.

    Did the sa
I purchased this and was able to calibrate and set the parameters back to 0. I did buy the SAS from the dealer though. I had one from Ebay and couldn't get it to reset but that was before I purchased this device and ran through the procedures that I posted earlier. It's pretty simple and straight forward. I paid $360 for the SAS

Hi, were you able to just calibrate the front radar and solve the steering angle calibration codes? or did you need to do the steering angle calibration thru techstream as well? I read the pdf you uploaded and front radar instructions are pretty self explanatory according to the pdf but I the steering angle pdf does not mention techstream instructions or at least I did not understand the instructions clearly, I also replaced the steering angle sensor and am getting incomplete initialization code and cannot find the instructions for my 2019 using techstream, already tried the paperclip method and that does nothing for some reason. I am in san diego, my tundra is lifted with 37s, not sure if that changes something, if you can advise on what I could do I would really appreciate it, thanks!

were you able to calibrate it? if so, how did you end up calibrating it? I am having the exact same scenario, thanks.

did you calibrate it with techstream? if so, do you know the instructions for calibration thru techstream? I am stuck with steering angle initialization incomplete, I am started the test mode with techstream and click next and end the calibration but that does not calibrate it, not sure if I need to drive the vehicle for 25 mph for 10 seconds or more within test mode or after I end the procedure in techstream? any help if appreciated, thanks.

Are you using something like this to do the recalibration.

Just ordered it last night, do you think it is necessary to do the radar calibration in order to have the steering angle calibration completed? I assumed the steering angle calibration was completely independent to the radar sensor, basically only checking that the steering is aligned, not actually checking if the front radar is properly aligned, which I assumed mine is not because it has a 5 inch lift with 37s. I will be doing the radar calibration as per your instructions as soon as it arrived in a few days, but I wanted to see if I did the steps correctly to get rid of the "steering angle sensor initialization incomplete" in the meantime, thanks.

Yes, as that is what eliminated all of my error codes. I think it takes your current geometry into account and makes that the 0 point so even if you have a lift it will make the change and therefore you will be in calibration.

I believe you have done the steps correctly but just not the last step which involves using the triangle at the right distance and height from the front emblem.

I'll hook up my truck to Techstream and try to document the various menu/steps I went through to complete the calibration and initialization process. I don't recall them off the top of my head, it feels like sooo long ago LOL

Got it, yes makes sense that the radar needs to be calibrated as well in order to be fully calibrated

Lol that would be super helpful if you would take the time, I have been researching everywhere for the steering calibration but the tacomas are different apparently you need to click on "crawl control" button and other steps to initialize the calibration properly, so can't find a good guide, if you would take the time whenever you get a chance I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

I used Techstream to perform the angle calibration. Short answer, the "Zero Point of Steering Angle" equaling -3072 means the steering angle sensor is bad. Once I replaced it with a known good one, it immediately started showing 0 for the "Zero Point of Steering Angle" and incremented one number at a time as I rotated the steering wheel.

Also, I disconnected the negative battery terminal first, replaced the steering angle sensor, and then reconnected the negative battery terminal. In terms of the Techstream steps, ensure truck is on level surface with steering wheel centered, then truck on but not started, abs>reset memory, then abs>test mode> and started the procedure and end the test, then wait 30 seconds and turn the truck off. Disconnect Techstream cable, started the truck and drove 25 mph for 10 seconds.
