Door lock actuator nightmare

I’m am now faced with a new issue on my Sequoia. My power door lock actuator decided to kick the bucket. Ordered a new one, and it’s not working correctly out of the box. Let the dealers parts guy know, he got me another one, same thing. Now I’m on my third, gotta unwrap it, it’s been weeks now. What happens is, when I press unlock to actuate it, it locks it instead while all the other doors unlock as usual. I ruled out that I assembled it incorrectly. The FACTORY motor “kicks out” to the RIGHT to unlock, I’ve never had an issue with it until it gave up. The NEW one “kicks out” to the LEFT when I press unlock, this is what causes it to lock instead. Dealer parts guy was apologetic at first, but now shop foreman is getting involved and now I’m getting the blame for installing it wrong. I even got the one for the passenger side, but that one doesn’t fit at all on the drivers side, so I ruled out the possibility of it being for the wrong side. ATP I am thinking of just going aftermarket, but I feel even that’s gonna be a crapshoot. Any ideas?

 

That’s strange, my first thought was that they mixed up the part number and gave the wrong side. I can’t imagine Toyota changing the locking directions and the plug only goes one way, so it can’t be hooked up backwards. Does all the linkage connect correctly? Absolutely a head scratcher. I’ll let the smarter folks assist ya, but best to ya.

 

When the actuators went out on my Tacoma, I replaced them with the manual version. It was the different between something like $400/side for auto, or just under $200/side for manual. Parts guy said they looked like they'd fit, and if they didn't I could return them. They fit, and I just dealt with manual door locks the rest of the time I owned the truck. But it was just a two-door...

Not much help with your problem though. I don't understand electronics very well but I can't see how, if everything was working correctly before, and you connected it all correctly, it could be working backwards. Did you read any tutorials on installation? I can imagine there being some critical step you missed. Like all the other doors being locked during install, but this one being unlocked? If they all operate as one, maybe they all need to be locked, or all need to be unlocked, when you install the "master" aka driver lock?

 

Try reversing the wires?

It's not abnormal for the wiring on window motors and door lock actuators (aftermarket ones, at least) to be reversed. It's been reported on here a number of times. You should be able to -repin the factory connector to swap the wires, or you can potentially use a 9v battery to trigger the door, and reverse the terminals to see if you get the correct response.

 

At that point I would either have the parts guy or foreman check it out and verify. Then I would probably return it and buy used off ebay with a warranty. I just bought a driver-side replacement that has a 60 day warranty for $70.

 

I'm also wondering if maybe it's for the wrong side, or is that even possible?

Use the left-hand latch on right-hand door, it has to pull the other direction, right? Or maybe I'm wrong.

 

I imagine it would pull the other direction but if I remember correctly from swapping the passenger side the orientation wouldn't allow for you to swap sides. That's what seems really weird to me. I wonder if there's a chance it could be for the rear door?

 

RH can not fit on LH nor vice versa. The part # 69120-06010 on the bag is indeed part for FNT LH for various year Tundra/Sequoia according to Ourisman Toyota..
