I have a 2004 tundra 4x4. When in 4x4 low and high, there is a clicking that sounds like something trying to engage and at the same time there is a resistance felt. This also happens in 2wd when pulling off a slight incline, after coming to a stop then taking off and also when in reverse. When this happens, the truck will not accelerate even when pushing it to the floor. But if I let off the pedal and push it again it will accelerate and the clicking stops. The resistance almost feels like power braking. This all happens when turning the wheel either way. No warning lights are coming on and no codes showing. The clicking noise sounds like it is coming from inside the dash on derivers side. You cant hear it from outside the truck. The acceleration problem also happens after coming to a stop then taking off again without a clicking noise. Again, if I let off the gas and accelerate it will take off and runs great. Any help would be appreciated.

First thing to check, click all my links in the couple of replies here to see what you’re looking for under the dash. The symptoms of “accelerator pedal doing nothing” and “noise in dash” reeks of “you have water getting into your dash, and it’s probably corroded a couple of power connectors, and possibly gotten into the fuse box as well”: https://www.tundras.com/threads/02-etcs-actuator-ground-location.99313/#post-3913132

A lot of people will see “clicking” and “4WD” and go to CV axle. I don’t think that’s the problem here if clicking is in the dash. Clicking is the sound relays make. You have relays in the dash.

I’m stuck on mobile at the moment so I can’t mark up the picture I want to. May come back and add it later when my internet is back up again.

When you push the gas and the truck does not move, does the engine rev up? or just nothing is happening at all.

The engine does not rev up. It stays at a idle.

That’s not CV joints then. Could be a relay of some kind, sounds like maybe an accelerator pedal issue, they are electronic now a days in drive by wire setups like the 2003+ tundras have. I’m not familiar enough with the electrical Nannies in the ones with VSC, but could be a safety cutout of some kind from the traction control system as well.

Given your truck is drive-by-wire (electronic throttle/pedal), that suggests a problem in that circuit and/or system, unless the truck is magically kicking into Neutral.

This is the thread I wanted to link you with, @Knob9 -- https://www.tundras.com/threads/cod...ator-power-source-circuit-malfunction.137914/

That person basically had the (what's starting to become a "classic") issue with water coming in from the windshield and/or A-pillar and running down the wire bundles. A lot of times this'll get into the fusebox and you'll end up with a shitload of electrical gremlins.

In this person's case, you can see the corrosive buildup in these two connectors. The smaller one is the pedal throttle control, IIRC. You can see the damn thing burned up. I'm sure things will get really squirrely if water starts getting into the yellow connector in the background (yellow connector is always SRS/airbags).

Anyway, you see how eaten up things are here. For others they figure it out because a code P1127 gets thrown, have you scanned for codes yet? Any codes to note?

Generally, what I'm getting at here is:
    • Random relay clicking in the dash
    • No gas pedal function
    • Both would be caused by water intrusion on the driver's side of the truck, into this connector, into the fusebox and/or its direct connections
If you have a cracked windshield you've irresponsibly ignored, if you're missing the side windshield trims, if you had the windshield replaced poorly, your driver door rubber seals are bad, or you park outside regularly and don't clean the dirt out of channels, water entry here is bound to happen. We usually see the complaint in the form of corrosion of the in-dash fusebox (see these pics & pics & pics) it happens a LOT.
