I don't care about either experience. Trucks, malaria, lightning, dysentery, AIDS, foreign object insertion, foreign object extraction. They're irrelevant.

So, applying your own words, did you die from malaria? No - you almost died. Did someone die from being hit by a truck? No - they almost died.
"Almost" is a qualifying descriptor, that you are attempting to quantify. This is illogical, and stupid. Hence me continuing to refer to your "sliding scale interpretation" of the word almost. Saying you were closer to death because of malaria, vs somebody else being not as close to death because it was a truck is stupid, which makes whatever the means of almost death actually are, irrelevant.

Almost is a subjective term. A synonym is near. Can there be more than one perception of whether something is near. Sure.

Two people are in a vehicle on the side of the road with trucks speeding by. Are the trucks almost hitting them? One person might think so and the other not.

Can one person consider this as almost dying? Apparently. Do I? Nope.

 

Well at this point I don't know if it's dumb or stubborn - but you're committed to it. And I respect that.
