I had mine done as soon as I could at 36k miles on my previous Tundra. I believed that the recall was classified as a safety recall for a reason.

I wouldn’t want to put my family or others around me at risk if this thing just shuts down at highway speeds. What if I lose power steering? Or something electrically assisted gets affected too. Peace of mind was my take on it. I had zero issues as well up to that point.

Just my opinion, but if your truck's build date is due for a new engine, why push your luck? Get your new engine, and consider the 38K bonus miles.

My engine swap finished today. Took a day and a half but there were some additional work like a new drive belt, new air filters, 30K differential & transfer case service, and cat shields install. I ordered a TRD Skid plate but turns out I already have one. I had forgotten that the dealer installed one when I bought it.

First thing I noticed was the lack of acceleration lag. About a week before the swap, the lag seemed to have gotten worse so I'm pretty happy with the timing.

And in case you're wondering, Edmark did not clean or wash my truck but they haven't done that with previous recall services so wasn't expecting that. Unfortunately someone messed up my bed extender. It looked like someone took a grinder to it. By the time I noticed that, Edmark was closed so I'll called in the morning about it.

When is your warranty up? One thing that I didn’t even really consider going in was that since they only give 1 year 12k miles on the new engine and I have a 8/100k warranty, it was probably best for me to get it done now and have the additional 40k left on my warranty just in case. My original rationale for getting it done now was for CA smog reasons, but I’m glad I did it. Just changed oil for the first time on the new engine and it looked great!

Just picked mine up at Rivertown Toyota in Columbus GA. So far so good. They recommended I go ahead and get it done when I was up there getting a new cranking battery. They had it replaced in about 2.5 days. The tech recommended 1000 miles before towing. I have read several people say 500 based off the owners manual. I pretty much only use this truck to pull my bass boat. I have several tournaments coming up in May. It would take me months to get 1000 miles. So is it 500 or 1000?? What the concern?

I didn't have a choice either when I bought my new F-150 Ecoboost, having to tow our new TT with less than 500 miles on the truck. I just took it easier that first tow home but otherwise just drove it. That was 9 years ago and 120,000 miles later with no ill effects. Common sense and don't try to win any drag races, personally wouldn't worry about it. That's your use case for your truck, use it.

How many work trucks, lease trucks get purchased, driven to a job site and go to work the first day.

Does anyone know what build months they are working on for replacements now?

I asked about this and the service advisor told me no break in. I explained the manual said 500 miles which I did when I first bought the truck. They explained that the 500 miles was more for the transmission to "learn" the motor, not really to break the motor in. I had a trip coming up towing my TT after my replacement. I barely got 500 miles on it prior to the trip just trying to play it safe.

Just did a 500 round trip camper tow. Engine was smooth and powerful. Going to do 1st oil change this week.

K&N air filter. Front windows tint, RC front leveling kit.
Finally got my truck back; the engine runs smoothly, and hesitation is nonexistent. I am happy with the new engine. Everything works as it should. Im at 58k miles and I didn't have any engine problems.

Amazing how it just vanishes off the CarFax like that 8-10 hours of labor never happened. Brand protection at its finest...kind of.

I have no less than 5 examples of this. Once the recall gets completed it no longer lists it and there's a general "service performed" line item on the car fax. I don't think a lot of people would love that it says "engine replaced" even though it's pretty common knowledge what's happening with these vins

Interesting. I have been helping our daughter and SIL look for a new/used van for their growing family. Checking Carfax reports has helped to eliminate some due to accident damage, where it's from (salt belt), etc. And swayed some by having been regularly serviced. They ended up buying a 2023 with an outstanding recall but it's simply for a software update.

I did see a few that had several, 5-6 entries that were simply "service performed". If those are recalls and we know that recalls can be anything from a software update or loose bolt etc. to a complete engine replacement, both short block or long block, then that makes a Carfax report pretty much useless information, at least pertaining to those "service performed" entries. The report should list ALL recalls and the recall # w/ a completed, that's it.

    That's disappointing.

They should list it plainly, but if you have the VIN to run a Carfax then that same VIN should show any applicable recalls on the manufacturer site. If Carfax doesn't show any outstanding recalls, then it would be assumed any listed recalls for that VIN were completed. That wouldn't account for any TSB or warranty work listed in a generic manner, but if said VIN has 8 generic entries with 6 available recalls then that assumes 2 possible iffy issues. One of the reasons I don't buy used vehicles is so that I don't have to worry about things like this.
