What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Are those Plano Sportmans cases? How do they hold up? Thinking of getting a large one to keep in the bed to hold tool bags and other gear instead of keeping things in back seat. Was also looking at the Rubbermaid Action Packers but don't know about spending damn near $150 on something like that.

 

Pelican is awesome. I sold a bunch of used ones here when I had to spin down one of our sites last year, before being paid to skeedaddle. They're virtually indestructible. I saved one that was lacking a handle on one side for myself. Which reminds me, I should probably look for a replacement handle.

 

Yep they are, I’ve had them for 5+ years and they have held up great. Other than the handle/clasps can fall off but can be put back on, they’ve had no issues. I wish the kinda locked together so I use a strap around them instead

 

Those look good, I have the same ones in the back but in tan to match my interior and matching front ones. The Husky Classic model I believe its called (and custom fit four 02's). I do love pelican, I have one laying around that I could potentially use for this but I want something bigger and not break the bank--I'll check for used ones near me.

Did you go up to the WL? I thought the 03s already had them but maybe it was a mid year upgrade thing.

I have the full set of these in my truck. One of my best marketplace finds. Think they were $40 and less than 15 minutes away. Guy sold his truck and he had hardly used them either. They fit pretty well, they definitely cover as much of the floor as you could ask for.

 

A Harbor Freight gift card is an excellent gift. Anytime I'm not sure what to get for someone's birthday/christmas/fathers day/etc I get them a Harbor Freight gift card. It's well received every time.

 

I upgraded the fogs to yellow LED bulbs. Much brighter, 6000LM (vs 1600LM). Wait until dark then I'll check how the look at night.

 

While driving today, for the first time in my life, I saw the 'windshield washer fluid low' light.

holy cow. I didn't even know that was a thing that worked on my truck.

 

What if I deleted my windshield washer fluid reservoir? I dont have a light showing up, haha

 

Time to throw in some Rain-X washer fluid. Great, great stuff.

I wish they made the weatherbeater's for our trucks. I like those a million times more than weathertech mats.

Well, if it's remotely interesting, this is approximately how much fluid is remaining when you get to the point the light is randomly notifying you depending on your current incline. And once emptied, the reservoir is 90% full at one gallon, and is up the neck at 1.25 gallons, for the AC/RC at least.

I went to switch washer fluid after seeing @Dakillacore rave about Rain-X (I got the orange stuff), so I wanted to pump out the old crap. Really easy to purge, just pull the line that attaches at the passenger corner of the hood, clip to the side of a bucket and hit the stalk to spray until empty.

 

It's good stuff. I rarely have to use my wiper blades unless it's pouring. The water just beads off.

 

I like to dilute 50% Rain-X fluid with the cheap blue methanol fluid and it seems to work just as well but goes further and saves a couple bucks. You end up with brown washer fluid though.

 

The 02 AC has a bulb there in the cluster, but I could never get it to come on during the start sequence, even after the upgrade to LED. Same thing for the low fuel warning light. (Yes, I used incandescent for the low fuel bulb.) It makes me wonder if they put bulbs in those slots, but didn't actually install the sensors.

 

I know on the earlier models - not sure about the older - at least in the case of @Tundra2 if memory serves, there were two different washer fluid tanks: One with a sensor provision, one without. His was - again going from distant memory - not wired for it, there was no sensor at all. It was my understanding earlier trucks were not universally wired for that sensor. I'd just assumed my later-year truck wasn't wired for it either because of that, hence my surprise when I saw the light.

It's not clear to me if the wiring is stubbed, either, the same way the fog lights are stubbed on every truck.

 

I discovered the "Stacktech" brand at Lowes and really like the system. Here's the box I got to rest on the rear seat ledge. (I almost always keep the rear seats stowed.) It holds quite a bit of gear.


There is a slot for a divider in the middle of this box, but it doesn't look like Stacktech makes an OEM divider. (Go figure!) Some guy is 3D printing and selling custom dividers specifically for this box on DryForge. I took a chance and bought one and you can see it fits perfectly! I am planning to acquire additional Stacktech boxes for use in the truck and in the garage.

 

My 00 base has the light in the cluster, but no sensor in the res nor any wiring that I have found, albeit it could be clipped off somewhere behind the fender liner. I would agree that they may have been provisioned, but not equipped.

 

Maybe it was an option that was shipped standard with the Sequioa but not the Tundra. Since it was the same cluster on both models they just shipped it with the light.

Do you have a layer rubbed into your whole windshield or just spray when needed? I leave near the beach and morning dew constantly makes streaks down my windows. Curious if this might make it bead off and not leave streaks.

 

I just spray when it's needed and the effect lasts a pretty long while. It'll condition the windshield the same as if you were using the actual Rain-X spray can. It's now about $6-7 for a gallon in my area.

 

Weird enough as this sounds, I used to wax the windshield on my Accord back when I had it and it gave it the same hydrophobic effect. It's a lot more effort and you have to be sure that you get all of the wax off otherwise it'll just streak. I stopped this when I found this washer fluid, hah.
