Anyone running Icons rear springs? Any but specifically the 1.25"? How do you like them?

I have a Dobinsons IMS lift which I like, but I am not a fan of the rear springs. They are way soft and make a lot of noise. I swear I can load a can of beans in the bed and they sag.

Looking to switch to the Icons if they are better.

There are 8 different rear Dobinsons coils. Which ones are you running? Sounds like they're not the right ones for your setup (too light of a spring rate)

    Thanks for the reply.

I've got the C59-835V (0-110lb load). I had reached out to Dobinson about my concerns a while ago but they said everything including the noise and sag was within spec. Additionally the top 5 winds of coils are all making contact with the truck stopped and unloaded causing the coil to rub and rust.

I don't know if maybe I got a less than ideal set of springs or what.

Variable rate springs always have the top wounds of the coils touching. What weight do you have in the bed?

Did you transfer over your coil liners to the new coils when you put them on? They go right up near the compressed part.

Ah gotcha. I guess then variable rate coils confuse me. If the coil is constantly touching wouldn't that essentially make it a spacer, rather than a coil? When would that part of the coil be active? Decompression?

I did not transfer the compression liners. Didn't know that was a thing either.

The only thing in the bed is a bed cover, which can't weigh more than maybe 30-50lbs, and a bed liner at maybe 10lbs.

Looks like I'm getting schooled here, which is good! Haha

This will help with the springs: https://youtu.be/iGM1coawbyM?si=2qsYDc3d_auZT_19

At full droop, the springs stay in place properly, as the lighter spring rate keeps them centered. That's very important when using longer travel shocks.

You might not even be using the stronger spring rate yet, just staying on the softer rate, since you say it's so soft.

We also sell replacement coil isolators if you don't have the original one anymore. On variable rate springs, it usually goes right up near the tighter wound coils.

I appreciate it, and thanks for the help and education. I'll try the isolators and see if that helps.

I do wonder if the extra weight from the hybrid system would be served better with the next up spring weight.

I’m running the icon triple rate 1.25”springs. The springs gave me about 0.75 of lift over stock (TRD Off-road). No noise from the springs and they are very smooth. I have a smartcap and an iKamper (about 350lbs) and that drops it maybe a cm or two. Happy with the Icons (running them with Kings) but I do wish I had more lift from the springs. I am actually thinking of switching to the Dobinson 843v springs that are rated for 220-440lbs.

That may be my plan as well. I definitely prefer a little more rake to combat sag.
