2001 tundra with 150,000 miles. A few months ago it started shifting hard like between 2nd and 3rd. Took it to local shop and had transmission flushed. Did not drop pan or change filter. While at the shop I noticed a vacuum line from engine to some device on driver side fender what broken. Not sure if it was related to shifting issue. A few days later the truck stalls while slowing down to make sharp turn. Like the torque converter was still locked in. Read somewhere on the internet about put truck in neutral and hitting 6k rpm just for a second. This seemed to clear up the issue and has happened a few more times over the last few months. Occasionally is hard to shift from park to drive and back to park. If I turn the engine off it will move through the gears just fine. I also have disconnect the shift cable and have no issue with the cable. I have only have a code show up one time and it was about shift solenoid E. Just yesterday the stalling happened again and with the rpm technique I was able to limp it home. Once I got in the driveway it was done, stalls out as soon as it is put in gear. Any help or pointers would be great. I plan on pulling the pan this weekend and attempting to check solenoids. I have read through evanhmn post about this issue and hope it will help with my problem.

First off, there's no point in changing the filter or dropping the pan in these trucks. The "filter" is a metal screen. Only a tip.

"Transmission flush", tell us more. Did they do a drain-and-fill, or pump all fluid out, and pump new fluid in?

Are any codes currently set? @evanhmn and @FiatRunner have both had similar issue. But I want to know the code, because at least one of the transmission codes actually links to an issue with the throttle body, though it'll throw like transmission. I don't recall which, but I can quickly look if you have the code.

@The Black Mamba may also be able to provide some input. Do you have the V6 or the V8, for our reference? What does your door sticker say you have for transmission (the A/TM numbers on the driver door jamb sticker)

The flush, they got in line with the cooler and started the truck. The transmission pumped the fluid out and then new fluid was pumped in. Currently there are no codes. Previously there was P0770 shift solenoid E. I cleared that code 2 months ago and there has not been a check engine light since. The engine is a V8. Transmission number hopefully this is it C/TR 1D6/ FG11, A/TM that was on the door sticker. I just started the truck again and with cold transmission it instantly died when putting it in gear.

Did you verify the transmission fluid was at the correct level after the flush? Follow the process in the manual. Always check on flat ground. If the engine is cold, use the cold marks. If hot, use the hot marks.

Didn't bother checking the fluid level again today. Drained the fluid and dropped the pan. I checked all 3 solenoid, the ohms was around 13 each and verified with 12vdc that the coils are working. Here is a picture of the drain pan metal shaving which looks a little excessive. It was suggested that the torque converter may have come apart.

Thanks for the diagnostic chart. It has completed quite driving at this time. Engine is perfectly fine but stalls every time the truck is put into gear.

Pull the negative battery cable for 10 mins to force a re-learn.

Start the truck, let it idle for 2-3 minutes. Does it continue?

I haven't put the pan back on permanently at the moment. Currently looking for a used transmission or someone to rebuild this one.

So let's get this straight... you'd rather spend $1800 (Yes, $1800. Ask me how I know) on a used unit before attempting the idle relearn that has been suggested that will cost you roughly 30 minutes of your time?

I have no problem trying any suggestion. I was just stating a fact of where I was at with the transmission right now.
