I barely get my truck in the garage with about 6 inches of space in front and rear. Ain't no room to leave a hitch in without taking a hit in the shin.

I'm pretty lazy so that's why I don't remove it, but I can confirm that MN winters are hard on the hitch. After 10 years leaving it in on my last truck, I had to get the 3lb sledge out.

I've got the 3 size ball hitch to accommodate a couple trailers, when I'm not towing I flip it upside down so the ASS HAT behind me ensures total front end destruction if I get rear ended. The best offense is having a good defense! It also works nicely as a step to clean/dry the rear of the cap.
I've never heard anything about it being illegal carrying a hitch in the receiver. Also, I've never heard of blocking a plate with bikes on a rack being illegal. In that case, pulling a trailer would be illegal for blocking the plate.

Pretty sure the French Canadian population already surrendered.

Damn, I'm in no way trying to be that keyboard warrior, but how many times do y'all hit your shin on a hitch that is in the same place, every time you approach the rear of the truck. Now, I'd be lying if I said I'd never hit my shin on a hitch, and I could understand if it randomly moves to different points on the truck without telling you. But, it only had to happen to me once or twice, and I'm talking 2+ decades ago.

I guess I'm just asking, how many times do y'all grab a pot of boiling water off the stove without using the handle?

If you park in a garage close to the wall or the gate and trying to squeeze trough in dark, chances are you are going to connect 99% of times. It is when a running shoe comes in handy.

    It's even a tundra.

I keep my 2" ball zipped an old black and decker bag in a tote in the bed next to jumper cables, tow strap, tie downs, junky emergency tools, ect.

I keep my WDH just inside the passthrough on my travel trailer.

I NEVER leave my hitch in. Just don't like to. I have plastic hitch cover from my alma matter that lives in the receiver.

I swap out hitches depending on the week’s work.

Currently moving so the 2” ball stays on the back for the utility trailer.

I lock the WD hitch and receiver to the travel trailer and hook it up when it’s camping time.

The recovery hitch stays in the box with the rest of the recovery gear that never leaves the truck.

    This ain’t rocket surgery

When I was in my 20's, I had an old farmer talking to me, we were leaning our elbows on the bed rails, when he noticed my hitch laying in the bed of the truck. He asked me in that "old farmer kinda way". "What do you think is going to happen to that hitch if you get rear-ended?" I looked up at him kinda confused, ya know, like a kid looks at an old farmer trying to pass on some wisdom. He said "there's a damn good chance it going through the back of you or ur girls' head".
From them on, it in the receiver or the cab

Actually, if you were to get rear-ended the exact opposite would happen. But in a front end collision the aforementioned hitch could fly forward in a manner that you describe.

2" in the swing case in my truck. I mounted a hitch to my two trailers so I always have it with the trailer. The camper's sits under the camper.

goes behind my back seats in the box it came in when i bought the truck brand new. I have my hitch, locks, a couple straps, spare tarp and duct tape all behind the back seats. Surprisingly, it's deep enough for all that.

    Pricey, but sweet!
I could leave that in and still be able to back into my garage without punching a hole in the drywall.
Knowing my luck, there'd be that one time after towing I'd forget to reverse the ball mount!

For now, mine stays in the swingcase in the bed. I have a shackle mount in the hitch most of the time.

I leave mine on a shelf in the garage. If I'm going to tow, I know in advance and can grab it and set it up.

In the receiver in case somebody rear ends me. Have on on all my vehicles and only takes one shin bump to remind me it's there!

In a bag with some rope of different sizes, some tools, a knife, binoculars, and what ever else I have in there under the rear seat. There is lots of room under there the whole width of the truck. A couple rags/ towels and none of it makes any noise.

Massachusetts once had a law prohibiting leaving a ball hitch on without towing but it was revoked 2 years later. Now, no state prohibits leaving a hitch on.

I leave my hitch on partly because it saved my 1st gen from rear end damage 3 times from people not paying attention.
