1000% agree. The fact that people think it's just normal to spend the same amount of money on a truck as a down payment on a house is beyond insane to me.

Now obviously if I'm ever in a financial position to do so, I will. But until then, it's insane to me.

My FIL paid $25k for his F150 in 2011. I thought $38k for my truck in 2019 was already getting high. :notsure:

A family acquaintance recently passed. They'd been a government employee, albeit a high-end one (not too far under $200k salary). Including their house which they'd recently remortgaged, they were almost $1M in debt. The world and certain people in it don't make (or have) any sense at all.

Ugh. This debt and money talk is unfortunate. It hits me right in the feels with the truck conundrum. From a purely financial standpoint it would be best to just stick with the Ferd.

I can't move into a similarly equipped Tundra without stacking on additional debt, and to get one that is really dolled up would be more debt.

So, my financially literate side is best pleased by keeping the current truck. The side of me that finds joy in vehicles and the side of me that stresses about the reliability and possibility of future issues would seem to both be best pleased by getting into a new Tundra.

Definitely lots of pondering to do.

We are now being made to think our value as humans is based on what we possess, where we live, what cars we drive, and how much crap we have. They've made it too easy to bury ourselves in debt, marketing is constantly in our faces, and we've hit a point where the need to have outweighs the need to remain grounded and only buy what you can afford.

It's sad really... No one even bats an eye at spending over $1k on a cell phone... granted is does a bit more than make calls, but still...

Owning quality products isn't really possible anymore; everything is dosposable, including that $1k phone (EVERYTHING needs to be replace every couple of years now).... this isn't sustainable for most and folks don't see where this headed... :(

And is no less expensive than a Tundra. I also like the room of a full size. I loved the 3rd gen (best looking truck) but the 4th looks like shit IMO.

Another thing to consider is that Ford is going to depreciate a lot quicker than the Toyota. So if you're going to make the change sooner is better than later.

Sitting in the camper while it is raining, baby sleeping and wife working.... Not a bad day so far...

as soon as the rain breaks, it will be time to cook more bacon and eggs.

Especially in a camper. I do not need that grease or odor inside for the next couple of weeks. plus, I am hoping to attract a bear. we will see.
