EVERY used vehicle that I have ever own has become a serious problem in less than 5 years.

Some unsolicited advice from an old fart. Stop buying used vehicles, buy new and keep for 15+ years. That means buying something reliable that works for you. Your bank account will thank you 30 years from now. In my late teens and 20s I changed vehicles on a whim. In 1988 I bought an Isuzu Trooper, it got over 200K miles. In 1998 I bought another Trooper. I still kept the 88 as a daily driver. We put money aside for car payments and haven't had a car payment since about 1990.
We did replace my wife's 2004 Grand Marquis last year with a new Forrester. I figure my truck will last until about 2050 or so, her's until about 2055. No car payments and peace of mind is nice. YMMV.

 

Yup, and that is why I am kicking myself for moving out of the Tundra in the first place.

 

All other things aside, you have always been keen for a V8. Even with a screaming deal on a 3rd gen, you won’t like the TTV6 at some point and will want to sell it quickly.

Keep searching, find a low mile 20-21 and skip the certified used. Pay the price for the hard lesson and then be happy you didn’t buy another half-answer

I had this same internal when I dropped a deposit on a 2022 F-150 Tremor (cause they were stilling honoring x-plan pricing) and I didn't want a 3rd gen or to pay 10-15k over MSRP on one of the few '21 Pros left....

But, I kept looking online (like freakin' daily) for a '21 Pro that was MSRP or under, and by chance found the one in Iowa that just cleared detail, had no test drives yet, and was priced at MSRP. My brain was saying fuck no I aint paying MSRP (I've never done that before ain't doing it now), but the wife nudged me and said that's what you really want so suck it up and just do it... So, I gave them a CC to hold it, arranged bank BS the next day, and scheduled transport after that. Zero remorse!!!

Yes, it's more than I should've paid, but.... paying for something you don't like is even worse!!!!

It's like a relationship, if trying to enjoy it requires you to lie about enjoying it or the relationship and aspects of it are 'forced' then it's not right!!!!

FTR - I’m the person that compiles & authorizes our payables runs…among other adult duties.


Recently, I have been getting calls from some our vendors inquiring on when they are going to get paid.

We pay vendors in under 30 days. ALWAYS.

When I inform the vendor of this payment history, they usually say they were asked to check on payment dates.

That’s how bad it is in this economy.

Vendors/businesses are cash strapped>> enough to call the customers that pay them well.


Something has to give. Soon.

 

In the last few weeks, I've been researching and pricing a Platinum/King Ranch F150 V8. to put the FP700 pkg on.

BUT......I can't get the ttl price to be anywhere under $100k.

$100k!!!!

WTF.....it's an F150.

I paid $52k for my '20 1794 (new). +$12k for S/C.


This economy is amazingly awful.



So, as others have said - my best bet is to ride the Tundra till the wheels fall off.


and frankly...it's only valuable to me.

it's got slight hail damage....and the dealer would rape me.
