Either one would be good but as I’ve always been told buy the newest and least amount of miles you can afford .

Both trucks are great vehicles and I’ve put a lot of miles on both gens with no issues whatsoever.
2018 has a more comfortable and smoother ride. The 2013 is way faster.

That’s what people who buy domestic have to do. With a (pre-2022) Toyota, miles really don’t matter that much. There’s a whole thriving sub forum of owners here with 20+ yr old Toyota trucks with 200,000+ miles on them going strong. Same for the 2007-2021 models.

Canadian tundras seem to have some different features than the US models (sometimes), so I'll focus on the important stuff.... Mileage and $$$

Mileage (longevity)... The 2013 is over 200km, which is just over 110k miles (i think), so based on my experience and what we hear from others on the forum you can expect to get another 180-200km out of the that vehicle before it starts giving you issues w/normal wear and tear items like the starter, ac compressor, etc...

The 2018 has much less mileage, but is almost $18k more...

While these are generally easy repairs for most vehicles, if you are not mechanically inclinded or have access to lifts/shop space these 'simple' items can easily set you back $1k-$1.5k per item to have someone else do them...

But, one of the best things you can do is put your butt in the seat of each of these vehicles and see if one feels 'more right' than the other... Also, crawl under both trucks and look for rust or other things that may make you want to shy away from them. Check under the hood for signs of modification or critter destruction. Lack of service and maintenance on one vehicle over the other may sway your decision, and don't forget to look for signs of towing while you're under the car (inspect the hitch area and where the chains hook up to give you an idea if the vehicle saw more 'duty' than the other...

Now, if all things are equal... IE>>> you feel just as good about one vehicle as the other in terms of service, maintenance, lack of damage, etc... and you are just as comfortable driving either vehicle, I'd opt for the 2013 and take that extra $18k to make a few desired mods to make the truck 'your own' and stash some of what's left over to cover any of the repairs/maintenance that would come up sooner w/the 2013 than w/the 2018.

Good luck w/your decision. Hope this helps!!!!

2013 and 2018 are also two different models aesthetically speaking. 2014 the Tundra got a interior and exterior refresh / redesign to bring it up to date.

Buy the 2018. It’s one of the most reliable Tundras made. Updated interior, better tech, less miles. Also has Toyota safety sense. Make sure you have a look at the frame for rust. Lots of salt used in southern Ontario.

I wasn’t referring to the drivetrain . I was referring to 5 extra years of heavy salt on the roads around here .

You should be able to get a good interest rate and go for the shortest term that you can afford. If the Tundra is being sold at a Toyota dealership tell them you would like it “Toyota Certfied” pre/owned. It’s a program that Toyota offers (Canada) on their used vehicles. The vehicle has to meet a certain level of condition.

The 18 will need tires, factor that in as well. And those rims... yikes.

I would still go with the 18 though.

That’s OK. Don’t let them sell you an aftermarket warranty. They’re not worth the paper they are written on. Work them on the price. I would offer 5K less and see were the dust settles.

Also if the Platinum is not something you have to have, you could find a SR5 crew cab for less money. If you don’t have kids, double cab could save you even more. 2014-2018 are the best years but the 2018 gets Toyota safety sense and the updated gauge cluster.

I think bigger problem is not the mileage. Older year vehicle will have seals and plastic start cracking and failing. Also, it will generally be rustier, if both are from the same region.

Becareful, some shady dealers will spray a rust frame black to make it look good. If you see any kind on tapering, pass on it.

Almost all of the private dealers buy their inventory at auctions. The Toyota dealership will send vehicles to auction which they don’t want to put on their lots because of issues they don’t want coming back to them. If it does look OK, your next step would be to get it to an independent technician to have a look at it. Choose your tech and not one they want you to go too. Yes you may spend $100-$200 for an inspection but it’s a lot of money to gamble on getting a sh!t truck.

It doesn’t mean this particular Tundra is going to have issues. Sometimes a vehicle will get sent to auction because the Ford dealership doesn’t want to sell a Toyota off their lot. Sometimes the dealership just needs to bring in some quick cash. It’s just a riskier buying from a private dealer.

If you don’t need a lot of space in the rear seat the DC is a better way to go. A little more payload, 6.5’ bed and 18” tires for a slightly better ride. The only issue with the ‘19 is that you loss the trans cooler. It’s not a problem unless you plan to tow often and heavy.
