I’ll be in the area tomorrow. I try to get a selfie of me standing in the opening.

@BuzzardsGottaEat, @Ghost Rider, @TacomaTRD4x402 , @Xcumminsguy, @khooiii, et al. I know it is only one shot, but here is my first pic with the D3400. I went out near the mailbox, and had this flower growing. Will work on color popping the image at another time.

Also snagged another picture the other day, to just play with it.

I really do like the camera.

    DSC_0001.jpg

Any feedback to help me get better? These are the first two pics with a "real" camera. So help is appreciated!

Stock, with a few cosmetic mods.
Nice work, especially the flower. Just keep playing with it. Shoot in A, S, and M priority modes rather then point and shoot Auto. Learn how to manipulate exposure, dof, and try to learn a few of the hard and fast rules ie. Rule of 2/3, exposure time vs. focal length, that kind of stuff. Learn composition, how your items are arranged in the photo…It’s a very rewarding hobby if you’ve got the time, like anything else.

Thanks. The flower was me playing with the effects :). I am going to print up the manual and carry that with me as well for reference.

The other stuff you mentioned, I am still needing to work on. The flower was me just learning the camera and lens what I could do in a quick walk though and to see what it could do in a fast state.

I did try to capture some animal pics, but while I was able to do so, it was not really close to see. So a zoom lens for that may be needed in the future.

Thank you for the advice. Will try go to to the nearby river this week and do some of those shots.

Just be patient. This isn't something that you can learn perfect overnight. It is kind of like fixing your tantra it's long and tiresome but rewarding at the end.
I do like how the flower is popping out, very nice.

    @2014 Black tundra
Bro, any 11B is my brother, please print all you want!
I was in 3rd BDE Rakkasans at Ft Campbell, Ky.
The irony is yesterday I took my son and his friend shooting, we spent about 30 minutes clearing the fence line and tall grass before letting my dog (close to 100lb GSD) out of the truck because so many snakes hang out where we shoot. This snake was really dangerous, not because it’s a rattlesnake but because it’s rattle was damaged, probably by an ATV or UTV but I really have no idea how. I was going to take a leak and looked down and damn near peed on myself! When I landed a few feet away I took some pics, I didn’t have the heart to smoke the snake, just moved it to a creek bed away from where we were shooting.

Yes, please print all you like!
Popped this hog up where I shoot a few years ago, bad luck to root in a field when the Rakkasan is around.

    Thank you.

Yes, I am approaching this as a marathon, not a sprint. There is a lot to learn, but I am seeing one thing immediately. The 18-55 lense is good for general pictures, but I have several animals around my house that for me to get good close shots, I am going to need a new lens to do long range.

    I am looking at either a 55-200: https://www.keh.com/shop/nikon-55-200mm-f-4-5-6g-ed-af-s-dx-zoom-nikkor-lens.html

    or

    I am looking at a 70-300: https://www.keh.com/shop/nikon-70-300mm-f-4-5-6g-af-zoom-nikkor-lens.html

This will be down the road a little, as I need to save some money, but what do you all recommend?
